Question about 1994 Ford Tempo

2 Answers

1994 Ford Tempo seems to not being getting enough air. Symptoms include slow take-off from stop light then all of a sudden the tempo is able to accelerate. It's like the car has emphysema and then catches it's breath. Long for trouble shooting solutions. Already check air filter, removed and replaced new but still problem mentioned above continues. Also noticed that when the air filter cover is removed and air filter removed symptoms go away.

If it sounds and acts like it's out of air then something is blocking the flow of air - there's something wrong with the airbox or the pipes connecting it to the outside and the admission manifold. Take a good look at them maybe the filter drops too  low or too high in it and blocks one of the holes for the pipes; or maybe the filter is the wrong kind (too thick); or maybe the pipe for the air in the box is clogged with dirt.

Then the only thing left is the airbox - when you close it blocks the hole for the pipe leading to the intake manifold. Most likely it has deformed in time and you must replace it. Luckily this is a cheap fix.

If your air filter is really dirty and/or blocked, you would get really bad fuel mileage, and your vehicle may even have a performance issue, Air is very important to your tempos performance and fuel mileage.yes you are correct. a blocked air filtre will reduce the air flow to your engine, and thus causes very poor fuel consumption
you will comsume twice the gas of a clean filter.
If the new filter is not of good quality it must be blocking the air. Some air filters, such as K&N, are more effective because they allow more air to flow into the engine, thus enhancing its performance.
Filters are made of any number of material such as paper, cotton, or gauze. Certain filters, such as K&N filters, are made specifically with cotton and gauze and are considered more effective than most filters. K&N filters are affixed between aluminum wire screens which allow more air to flow through the filters, enhancing the engine's performance.
You can check if the filter is blocked yourself by following a simple procedure to check its cleanliness.
Check out.Thanks.

1994 tempo drive belt installation

You use a special tool to move the belt tensioner to release tension on the belt. Sometimes you can use a regular wrench if you have enough room.
Make sure you have a diagram or draw one of the routing of the belt before you remove it so you know how to put the new one back on.

Usually the fuse diagram is located inside the glove box on a sticker. If yours is gone, check out your local library for the big book on the tempo. Hope this helps, KJS

1992 ford tempo oil leak?

Definently sounds like the rear main seal. My 97' Dodge Ram has the same issue and it leaks in the exact spot and has the same symptoms. Changing the gasket on the rear seal in simple but it's hard to get it apart to get to it unless you have the right tools and mechanic know-how. Your car seems to be leaking more than mine so it seems to be worst, but it is most definently the rear main seal. I put gasket maker/sealer on mine and it temperarely stopped the leak but due to pressure it will always seem to start again. Your best bet is saving the money or if you have it, invest it and go ahead and have the problem fixed. Hope I was of some help.
