Timing belt ... when does it need replacing - 2001 Suzuki Swift

The RX 330 uses a timing belt. It will be on the outside end of the engine furthest from the gearbox. It will be hidden behind a plastic bolt on cover used to protect fingers from fast moving parts.
The cars with an internal timing setup use a timing 'chain' which doesn't need changing anywhere near as often.

It is recommended that a timing belt should be change every 100,000km. Honda's and Acura's especially. Whenever the water pump is changed, it is also wise to change the timing belt too as it is all in one spot, and VS. Your water pump is driven by your timing belt, can not be seen with out remove timing belt cover, to replace you will also have to remove timing belt, if timing belt has not been replace best to replace it now also, timing belt should be replace every 60,000 miles. make sure before removing timing belt that you mark where all pulley gear's are at, so when you install the timing belt back on there in the same place as before you move the timing belt, no need to mark water pump gear,good luck,hope this was very helpful.

It has a timing belt. Recommended to be replace every 105,000 miles, timing belt also run's your water pump good idea to also replace, your engine is also an INTERFERENCE ENGINE which will damage your cylinder head valve's if timing belt goes bad. Hope this was very helpful.

Technically, nothing else needs to be changed when replacing a timing belt, however it is recommended or suggested to replace the timing belt tensioner and water pump while doing the belt. These items are only accessable when doing a timing belt. The cost should be under $100.00

i doubt your timing belt is bad allready. what exactly does that" timing belt sound" sound like?

Somewhere between 90,000 mil;es and 120,000 miles you should do your timing belt. But first make sure you do not have a timg chain. If you have a timing chain, you never have to change it at all.

1. Remove the Alternator Belt.
2. Remove the Water Pump Pulley
3. Remove the Air Conditioner Belt and Power Steering Belt.
4. Remove the Crankshaft Pulley.
5. Remove the timing belt cover
6. Remove the timing belt tensioner pulley.
7. Remove the Timing Belt.
8. (If Replacing) Remove Idler Pulley.
Installation is reverse of removal. Keep a close eye on the timing marks on the cam sprockets to make sure you don't knock anything out of whack.

I would strongly recommend replacing the water pump while you are replacing the timing belt. (The water pump usually comes in the timing belt kit.) Otherwise you are going to have to do this all over again when your water pump goes out. Good Luck.
