Question about Ford Windstar

1 Answer

When the key is turned to on , the starter does not run. If I turn the key to on and touch the two starter posts with a screwdriver, The starter run but the engine does not fire. When the key is turned to on, the dash lights go out. I already tried changing the battery cables. That did not help. Could it be the Ignition relay switch? Thanks

Dependinfg on the year you may have a faulty passive device. The ignition key has a transponder built in to the head of the key. If the module does not read that code the starter will not receive voltage to start

So I have a 92 Buick lesabre that won't turn over battery is good just when I turn the key it won't crank over now when I take a screwdriver to the starter and turn it over it will crank but won't stay...

Bad solenoid on the starter. Car should keep running tho if the key is on when you jump the solenoid with the screwdriver. If it doesn't, you have other problems, like a bad ignition switch or wiring. NOT the key switch, the one down low on the column the key switch activates.

My car wont turn over how do I home test 2001malibu starter

You just bypass the ignition wires. Even with the starter in the car you can place the positive jumper lead on the large nut and negative to any metal part of the car and you should engage starter. If your battery is good, turn key until light comes on dash in the run position and use a screwdriver to touch the little but on the solenoid (I believe the two are connected in that year) to the large nut on the starter to engage it. Hint, both will have wires already attached. Or you can take the starter out and engage it on the bench by grounding starter with neg lead on jumper cables and touching positive to the nut

1992 toyota celica wont start makes clicking noise replaced the battery still happens. how can i tell if starter motor is good

It is your starter. They are easy to replace. You could try tapping on the starter with a hammer while cranking to get it to turn. The other option is to add more power too it by jumping it and see if that works. If it starts by doing either of those things, its your starter. Wrecking yards would have them cheap. Good luck

I put a new starter in my 1990 toyota 4runner after it had sat approx 2 years 6 months ago and started it now after putting insurance on it last week and buying a new battery all it does is click not try...

make sure wires are clean and tight and battery is fully charged and posts are clean and tight, check starter by bumping it(turning key on and touching a RUBBER handled screwdriver across pos and neg bolts on back of starter)but be CAREFUL this will cause sparks and damage the screwdriver if starter does not turn its not getting juice,or just bad or not fitting right.

What is wiring diagram of 1990 Chevy suburban starter I have three wires two go on the big post coming out of the soleniod one attached to the small post on the soleniod cart wont turn over

check that you have 12 volts at the big post with the two wires. If you have voltage there then very carefully touch the big post to the little post with a steel rod or screwdriver. If your battery is good then this process will bypass the keyswitch. be careful because as soon as you touch the two post the engine will turn over. The little wire send a signal to the solenoid to engage the starter motor. check the voltage of the little wire dissconnected. when someone turns the key to the start position the little wire should get 12 volts.

Engine won't turn over on 1992 ford ranger

Check starter for 12 volts while trying to start, if 12 volts is present replace the starter, if not check the starter relay, starter fuse, and ignition control module.

In the meantime, turn the key to the on position and grab a screwdriver with a rubber handle. Open the hood and find your starter solenoid (located on the starter). Touch the 2 terminals on the starter solenoid together using the screwdriver. Be cautious to prevent damage to your starter or to yourself.

If starter still doesn't turn over, check and replace your battery.

Battery and starter are good we turn the key and nothing happens we can't hear a clicking in the relay

you might have a bad ignition switch, with the key in the run position try to jump the starter with a screwdriver, by touching it to the 2 posts on the starter at the same time
