Question about 2001 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

My emergency hazard flashers are giving me fits. When I press the buttong to turn them on they work fine, and when I press the button to turn them off they go off but the noise stay on. IT sounds like a blinker blinking but there is no lights on. It continues even when the hazard lights are off. When I turn the car off it goes away, but when I turn the car on the noise stays on clicking like a blinker sound, but the flashers are off. What could be wrong.

There is a 4-way switch inside your steering column which controls the hazard lights the blinkers. If this switch is faulty your example is one thing that can happen. If the problem worsens you could lose all exterior lighting except the headlights. I had this happen to me one time.

I can't find the turn signal flashers on my 99 Olds delta 88 but I did find the emergency flasher. Does it have one or two flashers because my signal light are not working at all HELP PLEASE!!

One flasher only. Check fuses first. Then suspect the flasher as a possibility. I have seen the hazard switch cause the turn signals to malfunction. Try pressing the hazard button in. If they work and flash as hazards you know the bulbs and flasher are ok. If the turn signals then work you have a defective multifunction switch (the hazard/turn signal/etc switch)

Emergency flasher switch

The Hazard Warning flasher switch is located in the center of the instrument panel above the radio. Press the switch to turn on the Hazard Warning flasher. When the switch is activated, all directional turn signals will flash on and off to warn oncoming traffic of an emergency. Press the switch a second time to turn off the Hazard Warning flasher. This is an emergency warning system and should not be used when the vehicle is in motion. Use it when your vehicle is disabled and is creating a safety hazard for other motorists. When you must leave the vehicle to seek assistance, the Hazard Warning flasher will continue to operate even though the ignition switch is OFF. NOTE: With extended use, the Hazard Warning flasher may wear down your battery.

Why do my turn signals work sometimes and then not other times?

Instead of a flasher relay, GM used a circuit in the flasher module.
I had the same problem. I found the solution on a Pontiac Grand Am forum. This was posted in 2006.."Many Grand Am's had a recall on the hazard switch causing the signal to stop working. Next time it happens turn on then off your hazard lights and see if the turn signals start working again. If so go to a local dealership and see if your car falls under that recall (free fix)."
I ordered one on line for $12.00 or $15.00 ,PartsGeek I think.
Put it in and fixed my problem . Good luck. c19e6e54-281d-4238-b776-03b104c1e1a1.jpg

Ok a friend gave me a 1996 toyota 4 runner the turn signals only work when u do them maualy rigth or left i CANNOT find the emergency flasher switch location neither ive replaced the flasher relays and the...

Yes your right the emergency flasher switch is the flasher and located in the middle of the dash and it has a triangle on it with a point up and a ! in the middle. It's dark red in color and when depressed lights up red and flashes ( if it's working like it's supposed to ) If the fuse for hazard is blown the flasker won't work on turn singal either. The fuse for the hazard is hot all the time and the turn fuse is only on with the key. You might find that when you find the button and push i thaqt the turn signals work normally and after you find why the flashers doesn't work on hazard then the hazards will work too.
with the hazard switch poped out of the dash ( it just pries out) it'll have lot's of wires one will be hot all the time and another will become hot when you turn the key on. the other wires go to the turn signal switch. If you find that the switch works fine and it still does flash on turn but it does flash on hazard with it on as a hazard go around and look at all of the lights. They have to work on both the frontand the back and the indicators in the cluster ( speedometer head ) If they all work and are bright ( not dim light the running light) The hazard switch is bad as it's the flasher is made into it.

Good Evening Faith. General motors had problems with thier combination hazard switch. The reason it is called a combination hazard switch is because it is also your turn signal and hazard flasher. On the Oldsmobile Alero, pontiac grand am there was a recall, as far as the impalas and monte carlos I cannot say for certain. Your local parts house (autozone, Advanced, Oreilleys) should have them or be able to order it. That should correct your problem. Hope this helps.

Good evening. Your problem is part of a recall by general motors involving the hazard switch. Your hazard switch is also your turn signal and hazard flasher. I would recommend calling your local gm dealer and give them your vin #, they might only ask for the last 8 digits and , if the recall has been performed yet if it has you can buy them from your local parts stores. Hoope this helps.
