I was also charged $1300 to fix the original problem.. which was the fuel pump. I paid him for it and then he tells me about the instrument panel lights problem. I feel ripped off!!!!!

Use your 2nd spare key to start the Jimmy.

Your VATS (PASSKey II) system is not functioning correctly because of dirt, dust, grease or day to day wear.

Check your key for missing/damaged/dirty black resistor on the side of the key.
i had mechanic replace my - 3767948.jpg

Do your best to clean the resistor on the key.

Use compress air in a can to clean out the sensor contact inside the key way.

There is bypass system in the market. I would bypass it instead of paying $500.

In his notes on the invoice of service he said "Secondary ignition did not test at normal value on inspection. Ignition switch electrical contacts do not power up the instrument panel lights." He said he had to replace this switch. Like I said before there was never a problem like this before. Does any of this sound plausable?

    Is it neutral safety switch?

For a 1997 vehicle,it is very likely to has a defective neutral safety switch problem.

A problematic neutral safety switch will cause intermittent NO START.

When it completely fail it will not turn the starter.

Please get me the NAME of this switch on the invoice.

Yes he must have not connected the battery connections or kept the wire loose any where in between. As all the parts gets power from battery in the car.So first the battery needs to be checked.Other thing is loose connections in the wires of dash. When you wiggle the key the wires get a movement.so check the wires in the back of dash.Ask that mechanic only to get this wires checked and properly connected.$500 is too much. Its not right. If he is not helping then get it done by someone else.Get the exact estimate before repairing. Its a loose battery connection, loose dash wirings and loose ignition lock. Not faulty but loose. That all has to be reconnected. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

My 1996 vienta camry cranks but wont fire. Was going perfectly yesterday but wouldnt fire this morning.

First check the things you need to fire. fuel, spark. First check to see if fuel pump is kicking on have some one help you. while they turn the key to the start position (dont start) You listen back by the fuel door or with a ear down low. You should hear a whining type of noise for about 5 sec and then it will go away. This is your fuel pump pressuring up. if you dont hear anything you probably have a fuel pump out. I recommend taking it to a shop for this kind of repairs. You can also buy or rent a fuel pressure gauge and check pressure under the hood. To check for spark you can pull a spark plug a test with a spark plug test. These are pretty cheap at the parts store. also test fuses under the dash and under the hood with a test light. A good rule is check the simple things first then maybe have it diagnosed at a shop best of luck hope this helps ya.

93 gmc jimmy wont start turns over and theres spark but it wont fire. fuel pump sounds like its priming

spray ether into intake , if it wants to run then you have a fuel problem. if you can rent a timing light, check the timing, it could have jumped, and it will still have spark. also check the plugs for proper gap.

yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

My 1995 GMC jimmy 4x4 just stopped running. Had it towed home. mechanic told me it was a fuel pump. just changed fuel pump and sending unit. Tried to start and will not fire. Put some gas in intake and...

Only one question.....was the fuel filter replaced? On a jimmy the filter is usually mounted to the rail up under the passenger door on the drivers side. Sounds like there is some sort of obstruction that is preventing fuel from making it from the fuel tank to the engine. I would have thought that the mechanic would have replaced the fuel filter first thing, so maybe it has already been done. Only you and the mechanic know the answer to that one. Good luck with your problem.
