The rotor is bolted to the wheel hub from the backside. To get at those bolts you will need to remove the CV axle from the wheel hub. If you've never removed a CV axle before I suggest getting a repair manual for the vehicle (from an auto-parts store) or take it to a mechanic that you trust.

Broken, Missing Wheel Stud

this is a really simple fix remove the wheel, brake caliper, and rotor. if part of the old stud remains, punch it out with a hammer and punch (screwdriver will work if you have one you dont mind damaging). put the new stud in the hole and lightly tap into place (it wont fully seat untill you put the wheel back on and the lugnut pulls it all the way through) Some cars require you to pull the wheel assembly completely off. for this you will need a hub bolt socket (available in a set from autozone's lone a tool)

How to remove the front rotors on a 2006 Toyota sequoia

On the 2008 Sequoia there are two threaded bolt holes amonst the lugnut studs. Thread a couple of bolts into those and screw in with a ratchet or wrench - walking the rotor off. Worked easily for me.

How to replace a lugnut stud on a 85 nissan pickup

Depending on if its a rear axel or a front rotor how you're going to do it is different. The method is still the same though.

The studs just have a serrated edge right under the head that holds them in place. They just need to be smacked out with a sledge hammer and the new stud came be pulled back in with a good lug nut and some washers that the studs will fit through without binding.

For instance,
A front rotor would need to be pulled off the vehicle. Looking at the back side you can see the head of the stud. Place the rotor on a firm surface and hit the stud from the side that is broken to drive it out through the back side.
Put the new stud in from the back side. Try to turn it to where it feels like the grooves (serated area)on the stud are locked into the grooves on the rotor. Then put some large washers over the threads (so if there is a shoulder on the stud that comes through the nut will not bottom on it). Put the nut on and tighten it do bring the stud through.

How do you replace the front rotors on a 1996 honda accord?

Remove wheel. Take off outer driveshaft nut. Remove lower ball joint pinch bolt & separate ball joint from spindle. Pull rotor & spindle out & away to pull driveshaft outer splined end out of rotor center hub. Look on the back of the spindle for the 4 bolts that hold in the wheel bearing. Use a 12 point socket to remove the 4 bolts and remove wheel bearing from spindle (out towards the wheel stud side). Probably will have to use a air chisel to get it out. Once it's out undo the 4 bolts on the outer (wheel stud side) of the rotor and remove the rotor from the hub. Clean & lube the hole where the bearing was in the spindle & the inner face of the hub. MAKE SURE IT'S CLEAN otherwise you may get a pulsation on braking if theres a piece of rust or dirt between the rotor center & the hub face. Reverse procedure to install.

If the rear bolts don't come out then you will have to use a slide hammer to separate the bearing to replace the rotor and there is a very good chance you will need to replace the wheel bearing after you're done (noisy on road test).

Not the job to do at home, usually an easy 2-3 hours per side if things go bad (book time is 2.2 hrs per side). Use good quality rotors as you don't want to have to do it again because a cheap rotor gave you a pulsation.

My left back tire of a 1991 Lincoln towncar fell off & i was trying to replace rear lugnuts studs

remove all brake components off of that side, pound out studs towards center of the car with a hammer. place the new studs through the back of the axle and then use washers that just fit over the studs for spacers, and put the lugnut on the stud and tighten until the new stud is seated on the back flange of the axle. remove the lugnut and repeat for the rest of the studs.

How to replace a CV joint 2000 Cavalier Drivers side

Buy the right CV axle. Raise right front of vehicle. Remove wheel. use a lugnut and washers to secure brake rotor so that it is not flopping and trapping rust behind. Remove axle nut. Loosen nuts from outer tie rod end stud and lower ball joint stud almost all the way off, but do not remove them completely. Seperate the studs from knuckles by striking each knuckle with a ball peen hammer. After the tie rod and lower ball joint are seperated from the spindle knuckles, pry down on lower control arm and push end of axle through hub toward transaxle until hub and spindle assembly is free from axle/CV joint. Place drain pan under transmission. Carefully place pry bar between innner CV joint and transmission and pop axle assembly loose. Install new axle in reverse of the dissassembly.
