Loud noise from the drivers side engine bay area or behind pedals

Sometimes the A/C unit will make noise 2 different ways. The compressor pump requires oil to lube itself. An oil charge with the proper weight (there is a difference just like in motor oil) will silence the noise. Second, the compressor clutch can get a build up of rust. When the clutch is freewheeling, the rust will make noise until it is knocked off. Since the clutch is magnetic, a little oil wiped between the freewheeling edge of the clutch will silence it, and not affect clutch performance. Once you start getting a rust "bloom" it will require periodic oiling. Though both would be affected by engine RPM.

I would also look at the engine cooling fan. Its' speed is independent of the car motor, and will operate while driving or parked. It could easily produce a rotary noise. Also your heater/AC interior fan could be making noise.

I hope my solution helps.

I have a 85 cutlass with a 350 engine i need to know what belt i need it sqeeks very lound dnt seem to have the answer for it. It stops when the cluth fans kick but when it first start

i`m guessing that you are trying to find out which belt is making the noise.first you need to push on each belt to see if the belts tight and not to loose,at the same time check the sides of the belts for a glaze or shiny sides as well as cracks in the belt .any belt that is to loose may just need to be tightened, any belt that is glazed or cracked needs to be replaced.if the condition of the belt is good then it probably just needs to be tightened.a trick to find which belt that maybe just loose enough is to take a wax candle or a bar of soap and with the engine running(being very careful around moving components) take and apply the wax to each side of the belt one belt at a time, when the noise stops that is the belt that needs attention either by replacement or tighting

Squealing noise under the hood

No, The fan clutch will not make a Noise it will just not catch the Fan to Cool. It is the Belt. Make sure that it is Tight. You may have a Bad Belt Tensioner if it is not.

HI there,
Your car is fitted with one very long belt which we call serpentine. Actually you cant adjust this belt as it has an automatic tensionner.
Try this, pour a little bit of water on the belt while the engine is running. If the noise stops then you know it's the belt which is noisy. If this is the case, a replacement of the belt is advised.
If not it means that probably the A/C compressor or the tensionner is faulty.
