Question about 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD 2WD

1 Answer

I went to get a state inspection sticker and when they hooked up the computer to read the emission there was no power at the hook up outlet under the steering wheel. I checked a bunch of possible fuses and everything seems okay. What is the problem

Can a dealer in nyc pass inspection when the control arm is shaking

My state doesn't even do vehicle inspections, anymore. Hasn't done so in many years. If inspection places don't drive the vehicle and no check engine lite on and no codes. I don't know if they do sniffer tests? I thought inspections was mainly for emission issues? I guess you filled it up with oil? Your talking about engine oil? You didn't check anything on this vehicle before you bought it?
After reading your post, that whole vehicle has got me worried, not just the sticker. Take it to different mechanic have him give it the once over. See if it is safe to drive. I can't see anything from here. Safety is your responsibility.
I can't comment on the dealership. I don't know. I don't line in New York state, I don't know the laws?

I have a 89 buick electra 98000 miles I failed emissions for high co at idle I put a obd1 tester on it it showed vehicle was not going into closed loop I replaced oxygen sensor it then went into closed...

to stay in close loop o2 sensor have to be hot
and the converter catalyst is the one who keep the heat......
converter is it factory or never been change.
with scanner obd1 you should see the voltage variation of o2 sensor. it should go from lean to rich . .500mv is the middle then under .500mv is lean and over it is rich.......with this information ecm correct the fuel delivery
hope it helps

I need to know where vacuum lines hook up to the engine on a VN V8 ( injected). For example MAP sensor, Charcoal canister, Fuel pressure reg and dizzy advance?

I am sorry we do not have these diagrams. There was a sticker under the hood that showed this information, it is required by law and is commonly called the emission system sticker.

Will an engine bought from a 1999 Silverado originally sold outside of California pass California emissions

There are two type of emission classes.

Federal and California emissions.

Look under the hood for the emission class sticker.
Smog check station's machine in CA are programmed to handle both types.

You do not need to change anything before the inspection.

==== Side notes: You should check the service record for the last Catalytic converter,O2 sensors and EGR valve change.
Service interval for
Catalytic ~180,000 miles O2 ~150,000 miles EGR ~160,000 miles

If you can locate the last smog test (even from out of state) Check for the
CO NOx

I just had the emission and state inspection done on my 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer and now the "service engine soon" light stays on. It was alright before. What can be the problem?

Try unhooking one of the battery cables and leave it off for at least 20 minutes. When you hook it back up the computers should re-boot. That has solved problems for me with heater, interior lites, power windows, AC, day time running lites, power mirrors, CD player, and wipers on GM autos and S-10 PU and Dodge trucks. None of the switches are connected to the device they control anymore. The switch tells the computer to open the window and the computer send a signal to the window motor. When the computer gets confused strange things will happen or not happen. Of course you may have to re-set your radio stations. If it comes on again, take it to Advance Auto parts and they will read out the computer error codes for free.

What road blocks will I have putting a 1993 1.0 L geo metro engine and ecm into a 1997 geo metro?

I don't know if it will physically bolt in or much about either motor really. However, most states have an emissions inspection that requires hooking a computer up to the OBDII connector. Installing an OBDI engine and ecm into an OBDII car won't allow you to pass inspection and is technically illegal. The other way around, would be fine as far as inspection anyway.

Emmision test failed?

It is possible that the scan tool that the shops are using, is powered independently from the OBD11 connector, but the testing station relies on the connector for power and if the fuse for it is blown, they get no data and you fail.
I've attached a picture of the connector and where you should see 12 volts. Get a test light and check this pin, if you have no power between this pin and ground, you either have a blown fuse or a wiring problem5243d31.jpg

The data link gets it's power from the fuse that also powers the cig. lighter,is the cig. lighter working?
If not check fuse no.3 (20amp) in the interior fuse panel.

We have seen on some occasions that some scan tools just will not link up for some reason. We have had several vehicles that customer went to have their state inspections done and the tester at that shop would not link up.We hook our ford diagnostic tester to it and it links right up,we then hook them to our inspection machine(which is not ford equipment) and they link right up to it.
