Question about 2002 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

I own a Dodge Intrepid 2002 with 3.2 liter and 110,000miles on it. Recently it started heating on me I replaced thermostat, water pump, radiator and radiator canister. It does not heat up on idle or crusing but temp. shoots up on high revs(like going up a steep hill for a while). Heres the tricky part when temp. shoots up I pull over let the car idle and temp. drops right down. I've done all I can, does anybody have any clue.

It sounds like you have a leak. Diagnose where the leak is coming from. Check for coolant leakage at your water pump, at both ends of your radiator hoses, and the transmission coolant line. You may also want to replace your Thermostat just in case it's locked in the closed position.

My water outlet cap popped off and its leaking water and the water that stays boils. Should i replace my water pump 2003 dodge intrepid se 2.7

replace the cap--is the radiator damaged? No reason to replace the water pump. Boiling is caused by leak, faulty thermostat, clogged radiator, or head gasket.

Is the water pump on 02 dodge interpid 2.2 ran by

If you mean the 2.7 liter V6 (I think the Intrepid only came with the 2.7 or 3.5 liter V6), the answer is yes. The water pump is driven by the timing chain.

Over heating 2000 Dogde Intrepid 3.2L

Hey Ninja,,, a bad thermostat will not cause the belt to break,,. BUT a locked up A/C compressor will, anything that is locked up or not freely working will cause the belt to break.. MAYBE the water pump is locked up and you are forcing it to try to turn.. this will give you the symptoms you describe..

I need to change the thermostat and have no clue where it is located the car is a 2002 intrepid 3.5 liter

follow the top radiator hose to the engine, the hose is connected to the thermostat housing, remove hose clamp and hose, remove two bolts holding housing down, lift up and there is your thermostat, clean the housing and intake gasket material off, install the new thermostat with spring facing down in engine, and reinstall housing and hose and clamp, refill radiator before starting.

1997 dodge intrepid 3.5 liter overheating problem Blows the coolant out through the overflow mileage 125K water pump replaced at 85K what are the causes of this problem? Thanks for your input.

Most likely radiator needs cleaned. Try adding some radiator cleaner to radiator, remove and check thermostat, check temp control unit. .

My 2003 Dodge Intrepid seems to want to overheat when it is very hot outside and i turn on a/c. I replaced the thermostat, new radiator fluid and sensor but still tends to overheat. The car sometimes does...

The problems are totally unrelated...Replace the radiator ($140-200) is the ONLY fix for the heating issues. Don't forget to add water pump lubricant from NAPA, called #13.
Good Luck with the electrical stuff

My dodge intrepid

if it is the 3.5 liter v6 then the thermostat will be at the top of the engine where the radiator hose hooks up to the engine there will be a short pipe where radiator hooks up and two or three bolts holding it to the engine it is not under the plastic intake plenum it is forward of that .
