Question about 1991 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

I have a 1991 Buick Park avenue with 44,000 miles that is not blowing air through the vents. I just put a brand new resistor in and that changed nothing. The fan spins at a low speed when the car is turned on or the key is in the on position but the fan will not run at any speeds except a very low on speed that blows no air through the vents. Fan is receiving power because it does spin, I even hooked it directly the the battery and it spins at a very high speed. Also if i jump the resistor connections with a wire I can get it to blow at a high speed. The relays seem fine but I will try more testing. Seems the speed switch may be bad? Also does not seem that the vent controls are working like switching from window air to floor, buttons are not lighting up or no noise is heard when pressed. The speed switch is by itself with its own connection so maybe not related. Fans good, resistor is new, relays seem fine, no fuses blown, what else could this be??? Thank you for your time!

Switch the relay with one of the other relays to make sure that this relay is good then go to the HVAC control programer which is behind the floor vent (middle). The Blk/gray wire is the one that supports the relay coming out of the HVAC programmer, but there is a chance that this programmer is bad. If that proves to be the case, I may even have one...let me know.

A/c sounds like it is blowing good but not much air coming out of vents

check for vacuum leaks, if your control doesn't have sufficient vacuum the mode doors wont operate correctly, no vac. will result in the air blowing out the floor vents, there is 1 vac line from the engine to the firewall that feeds the ac system

Vent/defroster fan

A mechanic would check for power and ground at the blower motor.
Could be the motor, a fuse, the resistor, or fan switch.
