Question about Maserati 425

2 Answers

Where is the fuel pump located on a 1973 Citroen SM with a Maserati 3.0 L V6 engine with Weber 42 DCNF carburettors (180 bhp). I looked at the fuel tank and did not see any wires going to the fuel tank inlet area where the fuel is supposed to exit the tank to the carbs. Just a tube coming out to the carbs. I'm taking a logical guess that it has a mechanical pump. Similar to the GM that mounts on the engine. Could you please let me know. As for the info this web site asks me for make and model vehicle well there is no Citroen listed so my answers a not true.

Some carbs are simple and some complex but both should be treated the same way.

Remove the carb and thoroughly wash the outside before turning each adjuster screw in and carefully counting the turns until it bottoms (eg 2.75) so the screw can be returned to the original position.

Most carbs need only thorough cleaning and few, if any, new parts.

The carb should be systematically and completely dismantled making drawings and notes during the process and then each component is thoroughly cleaned ensuring all air and fuel passages and jets are clear and use the reverse process to reassemble.

During the cleaning process each component should be examined for wear or damage using a magnifier and replaced if necessary. It is usually wise to replace the float valve and any flexible diaphragms but this isn't always necessary. If water is found inside the carb the fuel tank should also be cleaned.

Dies in hot temprature

Sounds like a fuel problem.
A carburettor will hold some petrol so your car probably starts then when that is gone it may stop, could be that what is in the fuel line being from the tank to the carburettor is evaporating in the heat this would mean no more fuel till the fuel pump, pumps more fuel through.
Or could be a blocked fuel filter this is not a big expense but should be done by a mechanic.
Just to make shore I would suggest you have a look were you mostly park the car, make shore there are no stains on the concrete as you do not want petrol leaks.
Also have a look under the actual car.

Fuel metering device location ?

Hi. Not exactly sure what your looking for ..... The fuel is delivered to the engine via a fuel rail and each cylinder has a injector to deliver fuel to that cylinder.

Fuel is pumped into the fuel rail at 35 psi from a pump in the fuel tank.....don't worry, never heard of one causing a fire. There's not enough air in the gas tank to support a flame.

There is also a 'throttle body' to allow air to enter the engine but iit is not like an old carburettor also delivered fuel.

If you look in the engine bay you will see the cables that operate the throttle body. there will be two cables, one for the throttle controlled by the drivers pedal and one cable operated by the cruise control.

Hope this is some help.

Where is the inertia switch located

The Maserati Biturbo inertia cutoff for the fuel pump is in the trunk on the upper right. Just follow the wires back from the fuel pump. There is a red button on top to reset. If it goes bad, just unscrew it and shake it vigorously to loosen the ball inside.

The only thing that would give you more power without hurting fuel mileage would be a turbo charger. Any other method would decreas mileage.

Where is the fuel pump located on a 73 Duster 318

Should be located on the block, passenger side, down low, and more at the front of the vehichle. It is a mechanical pump and bolted to the block with either 2 or 3 bolts, should have 2 or 3 steel lines cominng out of it.
