Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

2000 S10 Blazer won't start. It started out by not down shifting when you floor the accelerator pedal. The engine occasionally didn't want to start up right away. But would start on the second or third try. Now it won't start at all. I changed the sparkplugs. And I have spark, as I used a hei test spark plug tester. The fuel pressure with key on & engine off is 50 psi . I checked the gas flow into a container, When you turn the key on it pumps gas for 2 seconds ( as it should ) & when you turn the key to the start position it pumps gas again as the engine turns over. Are there any susgestions why it won't start.

    update: I have Throttle body fuel injection on this 2000 LT Blazer -- I squirted gas into the the TBI throat while my wife turned the engine over and it started up and ran untill the gas was gone. I checked the fuel pressure again and it was 50 psi. I'm not getting any trouble codes at al - the actron CP9180 scanner says no error codes found - I'm thinking the problem may be the fuel regulator - Still need suggestions

    I changed the fuel filter and got 3 more psi - total 53 psi fuel pressure - Blazer started and ran so so, but several things were in need of replacing and the transmission still wouldn't down shift. So, I sold the blazer whole sale for $1950. I cut my loses, The wife and I still have one vehicle each and are living happily ever after.

    Took your advice and got the correct noid lite GM SCPI and it pulse flashes as I try to start the engine. So I'm getting power to the injectors

    k you got injector signal, you should be able to see gas squirting into the throttle body, if so makes me think you may be drawing air somewhere else as in vacuum leak, or the iac is not functioning, or the mass air sensor, all deal with intake and vacuum, not much else i can say from here

    I was wrong when I said it had TBI - The old window sticker identifies it as a SFI system and there are 6 pairs of injector pins going to the 6 injectors. Do you think 50 psi fuel pressure is enough ?
    Tomorrow, I think I will change the fuel filter. If the pressure stays at 50 psi, then maybe the fuel pump will be bad ? What do you think? I appreicate your help.

    did some searching for you, seems you need 60 to 65 lbs pressure to run these engines, originally the tbi would run at 50, so you are on the right track, i am looking up testing the fuel pressure regulator, they say the only way to test the fule pump is to disconnect it from the fuel rail and test it at the source, if i find more i will let you know

    I changed the fuel filter and got more fuel pressure ( 55 psi ). it was just enough more pressure that The engine started up, Then I took the blazer for a test drive and the motor runs ok, but it still won't downshift and ref up when pedal is floorboarded. My next step is to change the fuel pump. I will let you know when I get it installed - if the fuel pump solves the downshifting problem.

The kick down cable on my 93 s10 blazer 4.3 is broken not even connected to throttle body I'm having alot of drivability and starting problems what would lack of this cable cause


the kick down cable is a mechanical connection that down shifts a transmission when the accelerator is wide open and the road speed is too low
as when going up a steep hill you have the throttle wide open and the vehicle needs to change down gears or the engine will stall
so no cable now down shift when required
run the fault codes as I would not think that the cable is the problem

You have air in the lines, you need a dealer to bleed this as it has anti lock and that requires a special tool.

If the engine RPM's increase when the gas pedal is floored, you have a transmission problem or a problem with your shift cables.

If the engine RPM's don't change when the gas pedal is floored, you have a throttle pedal cable problem or throttle body problem.

You will need an experienced mechanic to diagnose this problem as it is very dangerous to operate the vehicle under these conditions.

Try this. Turn key to the on position, but do not start. Now press accelerator pedal all the way down for say 5 seconds. With pedal still depressed turn key to start position, does engine now start.

Manual or Automatic? Manual, I would look at the linkage. The pins that hold the shift forks and rods can break causing only 1 gear.
Automatic, should have reverse as well. If not or very weak then the clutches have gone out. Drop the pan and see what the fluid looks like and if there is debris in the pan.
