Hello. I have a 2006 Toyota Rav4 Base. I need to replace the drivers side headlight, that is damaged, with a replacement driver side headlight. I wanted to see if I can do this by myself without wasting money at a auto garage. Can you please help me.

2006 Rav4 Base. How do I remove and replace the driver's side headlight. Do I have to remove the bumper? Or the Grill? Or the the piece of plastic above both headlights when you open the hood?

How to Replace a Headlight
(DIY Complexity: Moderate / Time: 1.8 hours)

Parts:

  1. Headlight

Tools:
1. Flashlight
2. Screwdriver Set
3. 1/4 in. Drive Ratchet
4. Socket Set

Hello. I have a 2006 - fc07be2.jpg

Steps:
1. Open the hood and locate the headlight.
    • Tip: Safety Tip:Always wear safety glasses when working on your vehicle. Wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, for example latex gloves or safety shoes.
    • Tip: Always make sure the struts on the hood can fully support the weight of the hood so that it does not close on you while working. The use of a hood prop can securely hold it in place.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the headlight or remove the headlight bulb.
3. Remove the headlight from the headlight housing by removing the headlight mounting screws or retainers.
  • Tip: Depending on your vehicle, it may be necessary to remove the grille and trim to gain access to the headlight mounting screws.

  • 4. Compare the new headlight to ensure it will be the correct fit.
  • 5. Install the new headlight.
  • 6. Tighten the mounting screws or install the retainers.
  • 7. If necessary, install the grille or trim that was removed to access the mounting screws.
  • 8. Install the headlight bulb or connect the wiring harness to the headlight.
  • 9. Check headlight operation and adjustment. If necessary, adjust the headlight.

  • Hope helps.

Here is the whole thing on changing it....and no special tools required. It looks like a lot but that's because cars have a lot of plastic on them now!!!

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

NOTE Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the negative battery cable to prevent air bag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTE When prying on plastic parts, use a blunt prytool with a taped end to prevent marring of the plastic.

  3. Remove the left side front fender liner. Remove the right side front fender liner.
  4. Remove the radiator support opening cover.
  5. Remove the front bumper cover.
  6. Disconnect the two horn electrical connectors. Remove the two bolts and the front bumper upper reinforcement sub-assembly.
  7. Remove the headlight assembly retaining screws. Remove the headlight assembly from its mounting. Disconnect the connectors.
  8. As required, remove the bulbs.
To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2. Tighten the headlight assembly retaining screws to 48 inch lbs.
  3. Adjust the headlights, as required.

  • Open the RAV4's hood. Locate the back of the headlight assembly, just behind the headlight. You should see a ring-shaped plastic cover.
  • Turn the locking plastic ring clockwise about 1/2 inch and it should pop off.
  • Remove the rubber grommet covering back of the headlight. Simply pull it out of the headlight assembly.
  • Depress the spring latch holding the bulb in place behind the headlight. This is a wire latch that looks somewhat like a bent paper clip. Press it down and move it to the side, away from the light bulb. It should come free and flip open, freeing the bulb.
,Disconnect the light bulb from the plug. Replace it with the new light bulb, and replace the latch and rubber grommet. Replace the plastic ring cover and turn your headlights on to ensure proper installation
  • Halogen bulbs should not be touched with fingers, as this will place oil onto the glass and ruin the bulb. Grab the bulb with a piece of paper while installing

The drivers side airbag light comes and stays on my 2006 Toyota Rav4 until the car is warm. What's wrong?

you need to get in touch with toyota they had a recall on your vehicle due to airbag.THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY CONTAINS ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE HOUSED IN A SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY, WHICH INCLUDES A FLEXIBLE FLAT CABLE (FFC). DUE TO THE SHAPE AND LOCATION OF THE FFC'S RETAINER, THE FFC COULD BECOME DAMAGED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED.
Consequence: IF THE FFC IS DAMAGED, CONNECTIVITY TO THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MODULE COULD BE LOST AND THE AIR BAG DEACTIVATED. THE FAILURE OF THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG TO DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT TYPICALLY NECESSITATES DEPLOYMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER.

Please allow us to assist you.

We have good news for you.

Your vehicle does not have a timing belt. Your vehicle has a timing chain; there is no suggested replacement interval for the newer engines with timing chains.

There is no need to concern yourself with the expense of replacing the timing chain, as it will never need replaced.

    Replacing driver side mirror

Take off side door panel, screws securing it are revealed, unscrew screws remove them and and the mirror drops off. If the wing mirror is on the bodywork, then the screws should be either in the wheel arch or under the bonnet.
