Question about 1991 Toyota Pickup

What is the part that the rear brake lines go to & and also takes the lines coming out to the rear brakes called I replaced every thing but that and still have air in the lines. how much do they cost. can I replace it with a T fitting ? thanks Walt

1998 all wheel drive mercury mountaineer rear brakes


I had something similar on my old 92 dakota

In my case it was the rear only abs hcu unit

Your rubber hose goes to either the brake tube from
the front of the truck ( rear feed) or to as you said some
other brake component.

You should be able to determine where the leak is &
if you have to replace a component unknown to us,because of rust & leaking- the dealer will be the source

The auto parts stores stopped having intellegent life about
25 years ago,they can't keep up with technology & your dealing
with young non car guys.

At the dealers parts counter they will show you on their computer
a picture of your frame & unknown part- if you even need it

Most likely you will be fabricating a rusted brake tube,hang in there

95 mercury villager, garage says a round thing that rear right brake lines go to is badly rusted and needs replaced. I got to come up with the part, what is the parts name? They don't know. How du


well I know of a rear brake cylinder, which goes between the rear brake shoes, Or there is a junction where both rear brake lines meet, and the one from the brake master cylender all come togeather to create equal brake pressure across each side.

Which brake line from the brake fluid reservoir goes to the left rear brake?


Not knowing exactly what year & model makes this a question that really cant be answered correctly.
Some car years have drum brakes in the rear & some have disk, some have a single line from the master the goes to the front & rear & each "T"'s off in the middle letting equal pressure to each. Some have an individual line right from the master cylinder to each wheel. There are even systems called X systems that apply pressure in an "X" configuration (L front-rear RT / RT front.-rear L ) To get a more accurate answer, the make model & year should be listed as well if it has 4 wheel disk or not.

There are times when the rubber brake lines start to come apart internally and act like a one way valve. they let the fluid in, but will not let it out.

Try this: The the brakes are locked up release the bleeder on the caliper. if pressure come out there, lock up again, and release the hose where it goes into the metal line. This may be hard because of rust, but you will probably have to replace the line anyway.

You may have a bad Master, but odds are it is the rubber lines. Hope this helps.

The part is called the wheel cylinder. (Not to be confused with the master brake cylinder that is under the hood and provides the pressure for the brakes to operate.

On a 1993, I suspect you have drum brakes, so the part you are describing as a rotor, (and that looks, well, round like a rotor), is actually not called a rotor. That is reserved to describe the round heavy plate on the front wheels.

Newer cars actually would possible have disc brakes with rotors on the front and rear wheels.

More than likely, especially on a 1993 vehicle, the seals in the wheel cyclinder are shot. Not sure how hard it is to get replacement parts, but the same re-build kits would likely have been used on several years and models of GM cars from the early to mid-90s.

Sounds like you have been talking to a very aggressive sales person!! Assuming the car is running halfway ok, & without seeing the condition of anything the most critical in terms of breakdown are:

  • belts
  • brakes
  • battery hold down
  • cap, rotor, wires, spark plug
  • trans, brake & fuel flush(by the way..no where in your maintenance manual does your car call for flushes of any kind!!) Go by what it says in your book

Brake Pedal goes to the floor in my 1990 Chevy C1500 Scottsdale


do you have a self bleeder kit? first off, you have to bleed the master cyl back into its self and the combination valve before you go to the wheels. when you do that, I think you will find that you have air in the lines. disconnect both brake lines from the master cyl and put the bleeder kit fittings on the master cyl, then put the rubber tubing with the kit on the fittings and submerge it in the brake reservoir. make sure its full. then pump the pedal until you get a hard pedal. if that is the case, reconnect the lines to the master, then have an assistant pump up the brake pedal with the engine off, and bleed the combination valve which should be connected to the master by steel tubing. pump it up, then hold it down, and crack the fittings loose, one at a time until the pedal goes about half way down, but do not release the brake pedal until the line is tight again, otherwise you will **** air in the lines. after you do all that, go to the farthest caliper or wheel cylynder from the master and bleed that with the same technique,and dont release the pedal until you close the bleeder screw. unless you have a major prob, this will work.

Broken Brake line


It's the same as any other car or truck. Simply cut the rubber off & there's a nut,like any other brake line. Loosen the lines as you would for any job. Now you say the lines are rusted,if they're that bad then you'll need to replace them from front to rear. This requires a tubing bender(hand held) & a doulble flare tool & unions. You can forget about that "expensive" part. It's a brake balance controler & never goes bad.

Rear passenger side wheel/brake locking at first touch of pedal


You possibly have air in your lines. When you bleed them you need to start at the rear passenger, then rear driver, then front passenger and then front driver. If you are certain you have no air in the line then you have a bad brake hose/brake line. Replace this and your problem should go away. If not then the culprit should be the distribution or master cylinder. I hope this helps.
