Question about 1990 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
There is a hole on top of the air filter housing , using long 3mm allen ranch you can adjust CO.
O2 sensor might help too , sience back then it was service item and has to be replaced every 30k miles.
But it's better be done at the shop that does smog test and repair.
By the way , this Mercedes doesn't have MAF.

Replace the O2 sensor. Replace or clean MAF. Replace OVP if applicable. Run fuel injector cleaner through. Replace catalytic convertor.
All these things play a part. As long as your ignition system is in order these are the things to check. If cap, rotor, coil have not been replaced try that.
