If the third wire has a large ring terminal it most likely goes with the large battery wire to feed a junction block or maybe a fuse panel. Note there is a wire from the solenoid to the starter motor. There is nothing you have to do with this wire. It provides positive battery voltage to the starter motor when the key is turned to start.

Where do the wires go on my 1998 sunfire's starter

There should be one smaller wire that is purple. That one goes to the smaller terminal on the starter. The rest of the wires go to the larger terminal on the starter.

1979 C20 starter cable replacement

corroded at the battery I guess..or the entire wire..these come in certain lengths but I guess you will need about 4 ft or longer it goes from the battery positive (red cable) all the way to the big top stud on the starter solenoid which is above the starter..black cable(negative) goes between the battery negative and the engine block either on the alternator top bracket or some metal spot toconnect to.. the starter has a secondary wire which will activate the starter with the key switch and it is usually a brown wire with an eye on the end with a smaller stud nut to connect to the solenoid..good luck

If you used a battery cable to the big post

How do you hook up the wires to the starter if there is more then one big red wire? do they all go to the same stud?

Hi, there should be one big wire and one smaller wire. The big wire goes on the top terminal, and the smaller wire goes on the start terminal (marked with an "S"). Do you have more than 2 wires?

Where is the starter located on 95 dodge dakota engine. I need to change one and am not very mechanical.

hi, to locate the starter follow the big live lead from the battery this will go onto the selenoid on the starter motor the starter looks like a small cylinder this is the selenoid next to a big cylinder the size of a big beer can, so just follow the main live wire and it will go towards the bottom of the engine and then it goes to the starter the starter will have 2 wires going to it the thick red live wire and a smaller push fit wire.

let me know if you have problems finding it and ill do my best to assist you further ok

I have a 98 saturn sw. Replaced the alternator, there's a wire, thick looks like it goes to the starter? Didn't take this wire off, don't know where it goes. possibly called the B wire. Alternator reading...

There is a heavy red wire that connects to the only terminal on the back of the alternator. The starter should have a smaller purple wire connected to the starter solenoid. A red (positive) battery cable connects to the top terminal of the starter solenoid. There also may be smaller red wires connected to the solenoid at the same connection where the heavy red battery cable connects. Hope this helps

Am having trouble starting my truck noticed a black wire came off somewhere down toward the starter or the block it is made into the positive side of the wiring that goes to the battery.

Doesn't sound right. Black wire should be attached to negative battery terminal. If cable is large, it might be the ground wire to the starter. Must be attached to the starter with nut on post. The starter will also have a big red wire connected. This wire is hot, and is connected to the starter motor when the solenoid closes (when you turn the key to start, the small wire to the solenoid supplies 12 volts to engage the solenoid).
