SOURCE: I have to put oil in the gearbox of Vw Polo diesel
I believe it is pretty much the same like on my Jetta 84 1.6 carb. However it is a left hole. :) Turn the front wheels all the way left. Look for a square like the one for changing motor oil, at the head of the gearbox. Oil should reach the lower edge of the opening when car is horizontal, according to my manual.

SOURCE: I have to put oil in the gearbox of Vw Polo auto diesel 1,9 (1998). Where is the right hole
there should be a drain hole near the very bottom and a filler hole closer to the top
Locate the fill plug. This is typically on the top of the gearbox. If you are having problems locating it, follow the speedometer cable down to where it connects to the transmission; the fill plug will be near the cable.
Remove the fill plug.
Place a clean funnel in the fill hole and fill the gearbox with gear oil. Check your vehicle specifications to see how much is needed. Re-install the fill plug when done, hand-tighten and then torque the plug down with a socket wrench one turn.

If you don't know where the hole is, how do you know that your gearbox need oil? Normally, you don't have to refill the oil and the change intervals are quite huge. Maybe you could describe what your problem is?
the fork pivolt bolt snapped and i had to take the gearbox out so i could fix it now it back together but i lost a bit of oil out of the gearbox when i pulled it out
