How do i fill my gearbox with oil? wheres the hole?

  • Anonymous Aug 06, 2010

If you don't know where the hole is, how do you know that your gearbox need oil? Normally, you don't have to refill the oil and the change intervals are quite huge. Maybe you could describe what your problem is?

There is a bplug in the side of transmission about 2/3 of the way up remove and fill with 90 weight gear oil by using a hand pump. Ask your parts dealer when you buy gear oil. Good luck.

SOURCE: I have to put oil in the gearbox of Vw Polo diesel

I believe it is pretty much the same like on my Jetta 84 1.6 carb. However it is a left hole. :) Turn the front wheels all the way left. Look for a square like the one for changing motor oil, at the head of the gearbox. Oil should reach the lower edge of the opening when car is horizontal, according to my manual.

Can you change transmission fluid on a manual transmission if so how

'Transmission Fluid' in a manual transmission vehicle is called 'gearbox oil'. On the gearbox, there is a drain plug in the bottom somewhere and a fill plug on the side. You drain, clean the drain plug, replace the copper washer and put the drain plug back in. Fill the gearbox with oil until the oil starts to weep out of the filling hole. Replace the fill plug.

year make model change gearbox oil

Please include 'year make model' in all questions in this category. Thanks.

Manual gearboxes usually require a gearbox oil change every 30,000 to 50,000 mi (48,000 to 80,000 km). Automatic gearboxes usually have gear oil change intervals of between 60,000 to 100,000 mi (96,000 to 160,000 km). It's advisable that you change your gearbox oil filter at the same time as your oil.

Where to fill up Toyota tazz gearbox oil 2005 tazz

This will be directly on the gearbox itself. You will need to get SAFELY under the vehicle to do this. Use a professional vehicle lift or support the car on axle stands, (jack stands). If you are not experienced working on cars it will be easier and a lot quicker to get a good mechanic to do this. They can get under the vehicle easily and will probably just drain and replace it with fresh oil.
On the transmission housing there are two large bolt heads. One positioned low down as the drain plug and one about half way up the side as the fill hole.
When filling use the upper hole and add the correct transmission oil slowly. Stop when it just starts to dribble back out of the fill hole. REMEMBER to refit the fill plug bolt BEFORE starting the engine or driving the car.

How to fill gearbox with oil

  • 1

Locate the fill plug. This is typically on the top of the gearbox. If you are having problems locating it, follow the speedometer cable down to where it connects to the transmission; the fill plug will be near the cable.

  • 2

    Remove the fill plug.

  • 3

Place a clean funnel in the fill hole and fill the gearbox with gear oil. Check your vehicle specifications to see how much is needed. Re-install the fill plug when done, hand-tighten and then torque the plug down with a socket wrench one turn.

when you go to fill the gearbox you should be filling it from the fill hole that is on the side of the gearbox and you want to fill it right up to that hole --- you can not over fill it because oil will start flowing out,, stop and screw the plug back in, you are done. ( note: make sure you are filling it while the car is level ).
