Question about Toyota Starlet

When turned on the engine, the spark plugs turn dark on the tips fast. it cannot turn on for a long time. it shuts off asap and hard to start again. so i clean again the spark plugs again & again. it can't run for along distance.

Starter?


Sounds like you have a weak battery..try giving it a good charge and try again many times engines will not start with a battery that turns the engine over but not fast enough to start.. Good luck.

check compression if very low (like 50psi) engine is hard to start, if engine turn fast timing belt should have skip few teeth and engine had no power

Dodge caravan was running good turn it off and it wont start back ,engine turns over but no spark


Got fuel? Sounds crazy but you'd be surprised how many times I have poured a gallon of gasoline into someones car to get it to start.

No start condition is the most frustrating problem. More information on what happens when you turn the key would help......but basicaly you need 4 things to make a car start. Fuel. Air. Spark. Timing. - Fuel, Air, Spark and Timing are needed to start/run. Asked about fuel, but is the fuel getting to the cylinder? Do you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail(s)? When you turn the key to the "On" or "Run" position, do you hear a whining sound coming from the rear (fuel tank area)? That is your fuel pump priming the system. No sound? Check fuses and relays associated with the fuel system. Air. You need air to the cylinder to make it start and run. Check your air intake and filter. Really clogged and dirty filter? Pull it out and try to start. No go? Put it back (change ASAP) and look for Spark. Spark includes battery. Are there any loose connections to/from your battery? Really corroded terminals? Clean and tighten the connections. Try to start. No go? Pull the spark plug wire off an easily accessible spark plug (grasp the "boot" as close to the plug as possible and wiggle back and forth easily while pulling - these boots and wire connectors are fairly delicate). Remove the spark plug (be careful and dont break it or cross thread it when putting back in) and pop the wire back on it and set the plug on top of your engine (away from the spark plug hole). Have someone try to start the engine. You should see the spark plug fire its tiny bright blue spark. If not, you have found your problem. The problem is likely a bad coil, bad coil wire, distributor cap, rotor or a combination of these. If you have spark, then it has come down to timing. There are lots of things that affect timing in modern cars. There are a couple of sensors that jump out - Crankshaft and Camshaft position sensors. These will generally quit working while driving and you will likely notice the problem beforehand with it running really rough and getting crappy mileage, and the check engine light will come on and give you all kinds of hints. IF you turn the key and nothing happens, it might be a broken timing belt, but again, those usually fail under working conditions. It is possible (rare) the timing belt slipped/broke when you last shut off the engine, but I would point at the other 3 things first (Fuel, Air & Spark). Hope this helps. Good luck.

My 1998 ford explorer wont start its getting fuel and spark it seems to turn over fast when it try to start it


the timing may now be out as engine moved after the pulley had broke , have the timing checked, if it's turning over very fast the timing belt may have broken so the starter isn't turning anything !

My toyota has been through it with my 8 year relationship ending pretty bad. My keys have been stolen 3 times 1 time recovered slammed the egnition twice. Car stolen 4 times all relays and fuses pulled...


If it turn over too fast maybe the timing belt.

Remove one spark plug after crank it long if the spark plug is wet, there is no spark.
If the spark plug is dry, thre is no fuel.

if there is no fuel or spark check all the fuses, if there is no spark swap EFI relay, this relay is in engine compartment.

wait untill its dark outside, open your hood and start the engine. look around for white / blue or yellow flashes of light coming from your plug wires. most of the time the spark plug wires are worn out / degraded from heat , and you can see the small lightning flashes in the dark. if you see no light flashes ( shorts to ground) then you can have a cracked / faulty distributor , or bad spark plugs.

knock sensor is working at least right but unfortuanantly thats all that is working

it is likely a knock isue check the motor oil it is not un usual for a nisan to knock when the oil is low but on rare ocation it will kick so hard the knock sensor will activate

Truck will turn over but not start


Hi scorioleo, yes, check that the battery terminals are clean. U can clean them up with a wire brush/sandpaper, coat w/ grease to prevent future corrosion buildup. If the terminals have corrosion on them, it could result in the battery havng trouble turning the engine over. Is the engine turning over too slowly (even w/ new battery) in your opinion? Next to check is spark. Pull off a plug wire, if u have a spare spark plug around, attach it to the wire, place away from moving parts, have someone turn key, check for spark at plug tip. Do this out of the sun, and the spark should be easy to see. If u have good spark, next to check is if fuel is reaching spark plugs.After attempting to start several times (only turn key to start position for about 10 seconds, wait about 10 seconds, try again. This is because it's tough on the starter to just keep turning the engine over w/out start up), after several attempts, pull a spark plug and check tip, it should be wet w/ fuel. If it's dry after trying several times to start, u may need a fuel pump (but 1st I'd replace the fuel filter, if it's plugged up, u can have a no fuel at plugs problem). Check this out, give me the results of checking the above, and let me know what u find, we'll continue from there.

If the engine turns over fast enough it is not the batt or starter.do you perform regular services like oil and filter changes.check fuel filter for restrictions,pull a spark plug and check plug condition and gap.you may just need a tune up.use good NGK spark plugs not cheap ones,when it comes to ign sys cheaper is not better,but dont get hosed,check around for price.
