Go to a wrecking yard and remove the same bolt from a similar vehicle and install it in yours(make sure you take the bolt from the same location that yours is missing from just in case the bolts are different lengths

08 saturn vue 2.4 L starter swap.. What is missing everywhere is how to find and/or remove the top bolt. everything else you can figure out just by looking ..even with a mirror I did not find it...

Is this what you have? And a problem with top bolt? Sometimes I use a mirror and a flashlite together to see into hard to get at places. You shine the flashlite into the mirror and it reflects the lite into the dark spot.
If there is gap above the starter motor, use a long extension, about as long as the starter with proper socket. I don't know if removing starter solenoid would help or not? Just a thought.

Remove a starter

  • Remove the negative and positive lead on the battery.
  • Locate the starter under the vehicle. The starter will be located to the right of the motor on the bottom. Access the bolts comfortably from underneath the truck.
  • Remove the bottom bolt with a socket wrench. The ground cable will be attached. Save the bolt for reinstalling the starter.
  • Unbolt the positive cable on top of the starter. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolt.
  • Unbolt the top of the starter with a socket wrench. The starter will be loose.
  • Pull the starter straight out. Use both hands to pull out and forward as the starter is heavy. Pull forward and lower to the ground.
Installing the Starter
  • Position the new starter in place. Match up the starter to the designated bolt holes on the mounts.
  • Start the top bolt. Turn the bolt clockwise but do not tighten the starter down.
  • Start the bottom bolt. Ensure the negative cable is run through the bolt before starting. Do not tighten the bolt.
  • Tighten the top bolt with the socket wrench. Tighten it snug. Repeat the same for the bottom bolt. Ensure both bolts are tight.
  • Tighten the positive cable to the starter. Ensure the cable is snug to the fitting.
  • Connect the terminals to the battery. Ensure the vehicle cranks. The starter will engage without hesitation if done correctly.

How do you remove the top bolt on the starter, 3.0l auto 1995 bmw 525i? i can't get to it. thanks

This how it is done step by step.
Remove the mounting bolts from the coolant expansion tank and lift the expansion tank out of the engine compartment. Tip: Do not disconnect the hoses from the coolant expansion tank. Label and disconnect the electrical connectors from the starter motor. Remove the mounting nuts from the starter motor and lift the starter motor off the bellhousing. Using a flashlight, inspect the flywheel teeth (through the opening in the bell housing) while an assistant turns the engine over by hand. You should replace the flywheel if any teeth are missing, cracked, or chipped. Tip: To turn the engine over by hand, turn the harmonic balancer bolt clockwise with the correct socket and 1/2 inch ratchet. Install the new starter motor on the bellhousing and tighten the mounting nuts. Connect the electrical connectors to the starter motor. Re-install the expansion tank and tighten the mounting bolts. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Hi I'm trying to seperate the transmission on a 91 isuzu pickup with a 2.3 all of the bolts have been removed and starter but it is still attached what did I miss

If you are sure you got all the bolts, top and bottom, you have to remove torque converter bolts if it's automatic. Other than that, it should pry back with a small bar. If it doesn't, you missed a bolt.

Starting problem, starter doesn't enguage. good starter, battery, celinoid, ignition lock, flex plate.

Have you chk. the starter switch on the steering colume under dash? Or is starter drive kicking in but not engaging teeth in flexplate? If its not engaging teeth on flexplate starter needs to be shimmed, or if its missing the teeth altogether on flexplate or bearly catching the teeth, top of starter nose wear it bolts up needs to be filed down to engage the teeth on flexplate.

Starter Problem

if you drop the trans. dust cover on the bottom of the bell housing you should dee your fly wheel. Place your starter in the position and line up the shims (if needed) . adjust the starter in enough to where it clears the torque converter and shim outward if needed
