Sounds like an aluminum can is rattling in the muffler?

Probably the aluminum heat shield between the muffler and the floor pan is rattling. Against something. Easy fix at muffler shop, should cost less than $50 to repair.

There is a rattling noise when Sedona is in neutral and you can hear it when it shifts while driving. mechanic said it is a shield between the engine/trans, said it can't be fixed and it would eventually...

Hi there.
It sounds like the baffel plates in the muffler which is a common thing on all cars sooner than later ,and the answer to it is get under the car and just bang the muffler with your hand and if a noise is there get it repaired or replaced OTHER WISE if not there go ot the coverter the other sort of muffler towards the front and do the same to that ,as will be your problem.

89 volvo 240 dl when i put the car into gear i hear a clinking

need more info. I've had a few 240's come in that made noise when putting into gear. It was more of a KLUNK, then a constant rattle/buzz type of noise.
I turned out to be a combination of two noises, that were related. The motor mounts were shot and the exhaust heat shield above the rear muffler, was loose.
It seems that the broken mounts allowed excess exhaust pipe/muffler movement, which in turn came in contact with the loose heat shield. This was the KLUNK and the RATTLE.

Exhaust rattle

heat shield, muffler baffle, pip not hitting/rubbing somewhere, bang the mufflers and cat with your hand to hear any loose baffles etc.you need to check it on a hoist but the 4 post type you drive on so the suspension is like it is wehn on the road to see if any thing is hitting, you just need to take your time to look and feel you will work it out,its not too bad aproblem
