Does it do it at startup or while you're driving? If it's at startup, that is fairly normal. If it's while you're driving,it is probably just a loose connection or wire on the oil level sensor.I think if the sensor was dying,it would stay on much longer or definitely constantly. If you can locate the sensor, just inspect the wiring. They are usually mounted external to the engine/oil pan.If you are not sure where it is,call around because someone will tell you for free because that brings business. Is there any particular condition where it happens the most such as uphill, downhill running for a half hour or anything or just whenever it feels like it?Good luck!Greg

This could be a bad oil sending unit, replace and see if that solves the problem,if not have the engine tested with a mechanical gauge to make sure you have the proper oil pressure.hope this helps,if not get back to me and we'll go from there. PLEASE rate my fix Thanks Ray

Pickup surges acts like its out of gas, stalls when stopping and hesistates when accelerating

2 other common problems to check into is when engine acting up where is the oil gage at? If at low, either oil sensor is shot or the oil screen on your oil pump is clogged, which the latter happens a lot to dodge otherwise easy fix is your idle control motor, cheap as well . located right in back of your carb.

I have a 97 dodge dakota it is leaking oil from the oil filter. the seal is good and it is tight.

if u just had the oil change recently I would unscrew the filter and make sure the old oil filter rubber seal did not stick to the block when the old oil filter was removed. If there is two seals on it tight it will still leak. It happens more than you think.

I have a 1996 dodge dakota pickup has trouble starting .....

Not knowing your truck, I'm not sure what Dodge calls it but there is a device that monitors the ambient temperature and sets the fuel-air ratio accordingly.
The "Idle air control" can be used for this in some makes. If this or some part of it has failed, the mix is probably not getting enriched enough to ensure reliable cold starting.

1998 dodge dakota magnum v6

It could just be your oil filter.
But most likely a weak pump, or a clogged pickup screen in the oil pan
