Question about 2005 Honda Odyssey

1 Answer

When going slow or trying to park, the steering becomes harder...like there is no power steering. The problem seems to be getting worse. The minivan has only 46,000. What is the problem and is it covered by warranty?

Don't see how a 5 year old vehicle has any warrantee,do you? You can check with the dealer, if you have some extended or aftermarket product.

I would say your steering rack is worn or your low on fluid, because of a leak.

I don't know your vehicle system or if you have a sensor to increase pressure during parking.

I hope you have changed the power steering fluid every three years or so ,on all your vehicles.
Also the trans fluid. Not doing the trans every 30,000 miles, is a death sentence, waiting to happen. I used to own a trans shop, believe me. Transaxles and Van type vehicles are 80% of all repairs in that business.

2008 Town&Country Chrysler minivan makes a loud whirring noise coming from under the hood. It seems the worst in cold weather, and at start-up. But doesn't go away when driving. Causes a rhythmic...

Power steering reservour may have plugged screen. Fluid flows better when warmer weather thus, no noise of starving power steering. Have a look at this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QjBLYltLYY

2005 saturn vue...the ignition key is getting harder and harder to get to turn...even parked on even ground..usually have to play with the steering wheel to make it work...but its getting worse

Me too. I found the keychain I had was quite heavy and heard that could be a problem. Also when I turn the key now I lift the key upwards and have had no trouble lately. Hope that works for you too.

Steering has become harder, making some light noise, where is the port in which to put the power steering fluid in..

the power steering fluid will go directly in the reservoir on the power steering pump under the hood. Hope that helps you.

Power steering works hard at low speeds parking etc put then seems ok when you get going maybe rack and pinion

The VOLVO 740 does not have speed sensitive power steering, so is a little harder to turn when going slow.but is very light when doing over 100mph.

My power steering on my 2007 KIA Sedona LX requires a lot of effort and is worse especially when driving out of a parking spot.

Try checking the fluid level in the power steering pump. It's the same as checking motor oil. There will be a dip stick somewhere near the serpentine belt. Check it while warm (engine at operating temperature). If it is low, refill it. If that does nothing. You may have burned up the pump and it would need to be replace. Thanks for asking.

Power steering, there is an audible noise while turning, is it out of fluid or a problem with the power steering hose?

I have the same problem. I hear a whining/whirring noise when parked, turning either way, and even when driving at slow speeds. The noise gets worse when turning at slow speeds :(

VW touareg steering judder low speed left/right turn

Sounds like you have air in your steering system. I would start by looking for any leaks on your steering system like hose to fitting crimps, steering pump, etc. Check your steering fluid level to make sure it is full and also look for bubbles on the dip stick. If everything looks good, start the vehicle and turn the wheels all of the way to the left and then to the right. Do this while the vehicle is in park and repeat at least 5 times. This will work out any air in your steering system. If the problem persists then the power steering pump may need to be replaced.
