Question about 1984 Dodge Ram 50

1 Answer

1984 Dodge Ram 50 4x4, 4 cylinder, gas fired, doesn't fire. Starter turns over, but truck won't start. Also the gas gauge hand doesn't move, so thinking it's not on -- the tank is full so when you turn the switch on, the gas should move and it doesn't.

Sounds like you lost connection to the gas tank start by inspecting the harness and connections

WHEN THE TANK CAP IS WORN THE AERATION IS BLOCKED; VACUUM IS BUILDING UP WHILE DRIVING UNTIL IT STOPS THE GAS FLOW. TRY TO RELEASE THE CAP OR CHANGE IT. JUST A GUESS.

2003 dodge ram 4.7 will not start when cold out fires then starter kicks out

When you say starter kicks out, does that mean that it will not even turn over anymore than once? Have you tried spraying quick start at all?

My 96 cobra starts great in warm weather,if it s 40 degrees or under it turns over but will not fire ,squirt a little starter fluid in the air filter and it fires right up,,what could be issue?

you say it will start right up if you spray starter fluid this should tell you something, the starter fluid takes the place of fuel(gas). the fuel is not getting to the cylinders when the temp gets cold. have the fuel pressure tested with a gauge to make sure its within spec.

Set timing on dodge ram

remove #1 spark plug, then have someone bump the starter while you hold your finger over the plug hole, Bring #1 cylinder up to T.D.C. (Top Dead Center) on firing stroke you will feel a rush of air push your finger off of the plug hole, check that the mark(or groove) that is cut into harmonic balancer,(what crank shaft pully is mounted to) is lined up with timming indicator on timming chain cover, check to see that rotor button is pointing at #1 on cap.
this should get you back to where you need to be if distributor was removed and engine was turned or moved.
then look at lable under hood if it is still there , if not check service manual for degree either before, or after T.D.C.
I hope this will answer your question
