Question about Buick Terraza

2005 Buick Terraza: "Service stability system" comes on seemingly at random at various speeds. At low speed a definite bump is felt as the system engages. At highway speeds no difference in car performance except the cruise control disengages (as I would expect). Always, shutting down the engine and then restarting it apparently resets the system and the warning signal disappears. Does running the car with this condition render it unsafe? Does its coupling with the ABS defeat the effectiveness of the brakes when the warning appears?

I have a 2005 Terraza CX with a similar issue. Completely at random my abs/stability/traction service lights flash on. My mechanic changed the wheel hub assembly (I heard they were problematic so I got him to change all four with aftermarket upgraded parts) and the problem persisted. His code reader kept saying it was the front left sensor that was the problem, so he decided to change the wire harness that runs along the control arm back to the computer. Problem solved. Haven't had an issue since. The old wire harness looked fine, but within the insulation, the wires had frayed and stressed, so they'd randomly short and trigger the service lights. Hope this helps you out.

When the warning is on your stability and abs systems are disabled, and yes any braking, or suspension issue is a safety issue and needs addressed, unfortunately taking it to a dealership for diagnostics at least if you plan to replace your own parts is the only way to go. I have an 06 terraza, and have has a few issues that had to be fixed by a dealership tech, luck for me I have been a gm dealership tech for 12 years so i fixed it on my own, but anyways their are severel different codes that can set for this system, so a dealership scantool will have to retrieve the code for you due to the fact only a liscenced gm dealer has the available software for this particular system. I know it sucks but thats the way it is..

Is it coming from the tranny for sure? Could it be your stabilizer links? Also have your lower control arm bushings checked as there is a tsb for those.

It is hard to diagnose the problem with out knowing readings on the ac system,a low and high pressure readings would need to be known. This is needed to know if it is a internal ac system problem,or a vent door,or temp door problem.Have a mechanic put a set of gauges on the ac system to determine what is going on with the system.

Vibration in steering column

if your vibration comes and goes with different speeds, most likely problem is balance in tires/wheels. a bent wheel often vibrates more with higher speeds. if the vibration is stong in the steering wheel, the problem is normally in the front end, if you feel in more in the seat or body of the car then look to the rear end.
