P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2)

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 2 is generally the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Symptoms: You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.

Causes: A code P0174 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
* There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible solutions include:
* In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
* Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
* Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).

Check engine is on

the only way you are going to know what is causing this is to take the vehicle to a commercial auto parts store, and get a FREE scan of the computer-any PEP BOYS, ADVANCE AUTO, AUTO ZONE, NAPA OR other smaller chains will hook up a scanner and read the code-just GET the code number (i.e., 'P0174")-then come back on here for help=or you could go into one of those stores and buy a cheap scanner, you can find one (also known as a code reader) for less than $50, I have seen pocket scanners for as little as $25. Then you could read it yourself and go on the internet and get the meaning yourself, and you could clear the light yourself (but if you have a persistent problem, the light will come back).

The VCS and Abs Indicator light came on this morning while driving in traffic this morning on a wet road-what does that mean on my 2006 Rav 4 that has 30,000 miles ?

If the lights went back off it means that the systems were activated due to road conditions, did their job, and then returned to their normal standby mode. If the lights remain on you need to have the vehicle's OBD computer read for trouble codes and then determine if any repairs are necessary. You can have the codes read at your dealer, your qualified mechanic, or at many auto parts stores.

I drive a 1998 Honda Civic DX. One day ago WHile the engine was cold, I revved up the motor in order to get out of a slippery/snowy parking spot. The check engine light came on. It has not gone away- but...

advance auto, pep boys or auto zone will hook up a scanner and check why the light is on-for nothing. get the actual code (i.e. 'P0174) and report it back here for opinions as to why it set the cehck engine light (CEL).

Overdrive light and engine light comes on

Over drive light being on is fine, check engine light being on you need to take it to a an advanced auto and have them put the OBD2 reader on it to see what codes it's giving, or take it to a shop and pay to have the code read then fixed just trying to safe you money.

How do you reset the check engine light? 2003 chevy tahoe

Check engine light came on for a reason. Could be one of a hundred reasons. My adivce would be to go to Advance Auto, O'Reilly's or any of the many Parts Stores and "borrow" a Code Reader. Easy to use and most places let you use it for FREE. The Code Reader will show what Code was set and what it MIGHT be. The Code Reader also resets the Codes and the Check Engine Light will go off.... until it senses something is wrong with your truck.

Good Luck.

Engine warning light stays on my suzuki grand vitara what does this mean

It means there is a fault stored in the computer memory that needs to be identified and fixed.
Have the code read or take it to advance auto and they will lend you the reader so you can plug into the diagnostic port under the dash and read the code.
The code reader can then be used to reset the check engine light and turn it off.

My check engine light is on but car drives fine

Sometimes it will. Have the code read. You can do this yourself at advance auto for free. The OBD reader will tell you what the problem is and help you determine the best way to have it fixed. The code reader will also allow you to clear the code and reset the check engine light.
