Need diagram or location of Knockit Module, ignition is retarding motor power. Engine starts to flatten out at 3000 RPM in all gears, 5 speed.

  • Anonymous Aug 09, 2010

1990 Pathfind v-6 5 speed - We are trying to find a printout or diagram for the "knockit Module". Ignition is retarding motor at approx 2000-3000 RPMs. Someone told us that if we can find where the module is located we can by-pass it. Have you heard of this module?

I'm trying to find out if someone has heard of a "knockit or knockout" valve or module. I'm trying to find where it is located in order to possibly bypass it. Ignition is retarding motor at approx 2000-3000 RPMs.

ignition timing problem?? well this age vehicle will have a distributor ,i think they changed in about 94 so this has a distributor and a ignition module which i beleave is inside the distributor ,so if its pinking then the timing is too far advanced ,if its not pulling then the timing is retarded ,cant see how though unless someone has been playing with the engine. Now if you say thats its pinking and losing power then as this is such an old vehicle i be inclined to suspect the head gasket as they do deteriorate with age but again i would really need my head under the bonnet so to speak ,it could be blowing between two cylinders across the compression rings so it would burn water or oil or cross contaminate but it would lose power

sorry missed spelt something ,---it wouldnt burn water or oil and i put would ,sorry getting tired as its fast approaching my bed time in this time zone

  • Anonymous Aug 09, 2010

It is not burning water or oil, someone told us there is a "knockout module" and if we can locate it we could cut the wire and thereby prevent the motor from retarding. Have you heard of this module?

Well it sounds like a bar room mechanic to me ,their is no knockout module or a govenor on this engine ,Best advice is to ask a local mechanic to have look as something is wrong here and this is an old vehicle so no limp mode exists or anything else that i have never seen on a nissan this old ,their is a fuel shut off valve under the bonnet with an inch square red rubber top which shuts the fuel off in a accident but if this wasnt working then vehicle wouldnt run,To be honest i would need my greasy hands under the bonnet and a test drive to work out whats wrong here ,does it seem to be very sluggish and have no pull ,also shake on idle ?? this could be caused by the head gasket blowing between two cylinders and this doesnt mean it would lose water or oil either just compression hence the lack of power .
