How do i find a battery drain

you can not check for a draw using the voltage setting on your multi-meter. You need to measure amperage. amperage is what is being used and causes the battery to go dead. Voltage is everywhere in the system and what you measured is voltage drop or the resistance of the circuit in question.

With your voltmeter set to amperage remove the positive cable end from the battery. place one lead on the positive cable end and the other lead on the positive battery post. Wait 30 minutes for everything to power down. you should see less than .050 amps. if you see more than start pulling fuses until you narrow down the circuit that is causing the draw.

make sure the key is off and out of the ignition, make sure all the doors are closed, and make sure there is nothing plugged into the 12 volt accessory outlets.

let me know what you find.

How to test a blower motor resistor

Unplug the electrical connector to the resistor. There are 4 terminals on the resistor block. You test the resistor block using an electrical multi-meter, set to the Ohms scale. Using the meter's test leads, check the following:
Between terminals 2 & 3, you should have 2.3 ohms resistance.
Between terminals 3 &4 you should have 1.1 ohms resistance.
Between terminals 3 & 1 you should have 0.4 ohms resistance.
A bad resistor block will generally show infinite ohms on one or more of these tests. Look very carefully [magnifying glass] for the marks which identify the terminals on the block.

I am not sure how to test if i have power going to my glow plugs i tested the plugs for continuity ad they appeared finr but i am not sure if i am getting power to the plugs any help would be appreciated

disconnect the lead to the glo-plugs and install a multi meter on the end of the wire .red lead to the wire and black lead to earth . set meter to read volts DC and turn on the ignition to start position . If there is power in the wire the meter will read 12 volts. If nothing then check the realay and fuses.

Have 2002 Nissan frontier. Recently bought new battery. Had alternator checked by autozone. Truck will not start occasionally, and sometimes dies while driving. Lights will dim and truck will not...

I would get a second opinion on your alternator. Does your battery light come on while your driving? That can be an indicator of an alternator going bad. Also, there's an easy way to check the alternator yourself if you have access to a multi-meter. Turn the multi-meter on to DC volts and start the car. Put the positive lead on the positive battery terminal and the negative lead on the negative battery cable. While the car is idling, the meter should read 12.5 - 13.5 volts. Have someone rev the engine. With the increased RPM's the meter should read over 14 volts. If the voltage goes down when you rev the engine, your alternator is bad.

Good Luck!

How can you check if a resister is bad

I use the ohmmeter function on my digital multimeter (DMM). You can get a basic DMM from Sears or Radio Shack for about $30.

First, (safety check) measure the voltage across the terminals unless you know there is no power in the circuit, or better yet, disconnect the resistor so other components don't give you a false reading. Attempting to read the value of a resistor in a live circuit will give you a meaningless number at best, and may severely damage your meter at worst. It could also damage other parts in the circuit.

Now switch your meter to the lowest ? range (Greek capital Omega, for Ohm) greater than the expected value of the resistor. Connect one test lead to each end of the resistor. The number you read should be the expected value plus or minus the tolerance (e. g., a 100 ? 5% resistor should read somewhere between 95.0 - 105.0 on the 200 ? range.). A bad resistor will usually show up as 1___ (over-range) because it will be burned out and open. Some very old carbon composition resistors will short (read much less than 1 ?) when they fail.

Often, a visual inspection will identify a bad resistor - if you can see that it's burned and broken, it's bad and further testing is unnecessary. The ohmmeter is for all the other cases.

92 wrangler seems like it isnt getting gas

Only careful testing will give you an answer, but check the ballast resistor on the drivers fender near the firewall and master cylinder (ceramic block ) they sometimes can do that. Testing requires using a digital multi-meter and following instructions in any decent manual. I know it's a pain to do but it avoids expensive guessing.

without seeing the the offending little so and so its difficult to put a finger on it ,firstly try starting it with some either spray ,then when its running take it to your local garage and let a mechanic have a look, the symptoms you describe could be caused by a variety of different faults accumulating into one ,from the auto choke not working to a dodgy fuel pump or a loom problem ...

Nissan vanette not starting from cold

My vanette had exactly the same problem yesterday. The glow plugs have a timer and a relay. I think that if the light on the dash goes on and off as normal then its probably the relay not the timer. So I have replaced the relay (£50 nissan dealer only) which is located in the center console below the radio/heater controls. Until its really cold again tomorrow I wont know if its really cured it but I'm fairly certain that will be it.
