Question about 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. Recently the front blower fan began to work intermittently. Sometimes it would work only on high, sometimes any speed, sometimes only when the rear blower was off. Now it has quit working all together. Additionally, when it first began to act up, the A/C light would turn on opposite of the fan switch. Typically, the A/C light only comes on when the fan is on. I replaced the resistor behind the glove box which did not fix the problem. I also tried to hook the fan wires (black/dark green) directly to the battery and the fan did not turn on. I assume the fan is the problem but the strange symptoms with the swith are causing me to question myself. Lastly, I tested the 4 wires at the resistor which presumably come from the switch. I do not get voltage at any of the 4 wires, but do have voltage going to the fan. Help!

I think your headed in the right direction. At the front blower motor, the black wire is voltage and the dark green wire ground. As you can see the thermal fuse and resisters are on the ground circuit for blower motor , the speed controls are also on the ground circuit. Any motor that uses brushes, sometimes you can tap on the blower housing and it starts running, or driving down the road and you hit a bump and it takes off. Your jumper wires should have worked, in my opinion. If you wired it up backwards, I don't know if blower motor would run backwards, I never tried it. In the past, with faulty blower motors, I took it apart and looked at the brushes, wore down to the nub.

check the fan blower relay. this is the one powering up the blue wire going to the motor.

maybe it has a separate fuse. check from other locations. could be in the passenger kick panel.

If I am understanding you correctly, the blower fan is not running. You will need to take things apart until you can get to the blower itself. (Or you could test for voltage at the blower control switch) But I am guessing it is the blower that has gone bad, not the switch. However, they usually get noisy, and then go bad. Test for 12 volts going into the blower motor. If you have voltage at the blower motor, and it doesn't run, replace the blower motor.

Try changing the door switch. It should be a relatively easy fix if that is the problem.

Hi............ Sounds like the fan motor, but first check the resistor pack........ normally fails first..... sometimes though you end up renewing both..... would think by the age of the vehicle that this will be the case........ Hope this helps...... Steve ....... Botswana

The fan to the ac works intermitent, sometimes I start the engine and it works and other times it doesn't

that sounds like it might be the blower motor resistor. it is what controls the fan speeds. sometimes they cut in and out like that.

If you are looking for the fan blower resistor, it is located behind the glove box. No tools need to get to it and a nut driver to remove the 2 screws to replace it. A 20$ part.
