It is the starter. What is happening is the brushes inside the starter are not making contact until it clicks and moves them. In most cases the brushes are broken and the clicking readjusts them. Hope it helps vote for me!!!

Have them remove the starter solenoid from the starter and remove the plastic end with the electrical contacts, and see if their badly burn't.
I would assume they checked any starter relay that you may have.
Also the neutral safety switch.
They should be doing a voltage drop test during cranking, and current draw. You don't have to,but it pays to use all your testing skills, ocassionally.

You could replace the starter,it's not a huge expense, but it's nice to find your real problem thru some sort of testing.

Your ignition switch is going bad. The strange noise is the starter remaining engaged and locked to the flywheel. Your best bet is to have the starter tested at your local auto parts store, to deduce that it is not, in fact, your starter.

My 2001mazada tribute has been sitting for six months when i try to start it nothing happens not even clicking.I have charged the battery and have power to the car but still does nothing

If you're not getting any kind of a click with a turn of the key it sounds to me like the starter is not getting power. If you turn the key to the start position and don't hear anything, not even a click it's usually because the starter is not getting power, or it has seized. Try swapping the starter relay with another similar relay to test it. If that doesn't do the trick, remove the starter and take it to any parts store to have it tested for free. (it is also possible that the battery only has enough juice to power the lights and not engage the starter after sitting for six months...I know you said you charged it, but if you happen to take the starter to have it tested, do the same for the battery.)

I would imagine the starter is going bad. My corsica does that when its really cold. I would have the starter tested. And check your wire connections for corosion.

Won't start...99 cadillac deville...no juice to the starter

hi, can you hear a clicking noise when you turn the key to start as the starter gets its power direct from the battery so also check these wires are connected and not came loose.
If you can hear a clicking noise when you turn the key this means the starter motor needs replacing ok.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

try to check if the starter relay clicking while you start. If no maybe bad connection from ignition key. If the relay clicking maybe the connection to starter or the starter itself is damaged. try to direct the sol. of starter to batt. positive if it kick your starter is good.

Car Won't Start

when you hear the click hold the key in that position for about 7 seconds and then go and feel if the batterie cables are hot if they are hot you have either a bad starter or a frozen engine meaning engine is lock, or if they get not hot at all make sure the cables and conectors at batterie are clean and tie and try again if wont start and cables not hot then replace starter
you can also hold the key all the way in and have someone top on starter with small hammer some time this will get it to run if it runs that way then do not shut the car off park it in desired place and replace starter
i hope and you do not consoder this as a inapropiate answer like other people are been doing, because i'm about to quit answering questions
