Question about 2001 Subaru Forester

Open Question

What kind of transfer case oil do I use for a 2001 subaru forester. The manual reads gl5 but the store doesn't know what it is. Or, they don't want to bother looking it up for me. From all the searches I have done, I find that it's either 80/90 or 85/140. But, how do I know which one?

SOURCE: 2001 subaru forester rear wiper motor replacement

Hi, it is pretty straightfoward (ahem, you know how this can go. depends on whether your wiper arm retaining bolt is frozen and snaps off the shaft or not). First, take a look at your fuse to make sure it is intact. If it is, just gently pop off all of the plastic trim covering the tailgate, and undo screws too as necessary. Then test the connector wires to be sure you are still getting power back there to the motor, I used a $4 test light that I got from AutoZone. Then use a large philips head screwdriver and 10mm socket to remove the whole dang thing.

SOURCE: 2001 subaru forester 225000 kms..how long do they typically last?

Provided the vehicle has been serviced regulary and had good quality oil and filters, theres no reason the car shouldn't get 400,000+ kms. Check its service history, and its oil consumption.

SOURCE: transfer case is popping/jerking in low speed turns

Center differential is broken, you can test it by doing tight circles in a car park 3 or 4 to the left and repeat to the right,if it doesn't un block and it still feels like you're driving over marbles (big ones) when you turn you're sure it's the c.diff.
Check tyres are all in spec.identical and same usage, right pressure.
