Sound like a broken flywheel, also remove valve cove and crank engine, see if any of the rocker arm's move, if none move, bad fly wheel, if only back rocker arm's move, broken crankshaft.

Sorry to tell you this - The flywheel is broken from the crankshaft and you will need to replace the crankshaft/flywheel.

2004 Pontiac grand am drivers side wiper not moving but passenger side is. bolt is tightened. when I turn on the pivot does not move.

One of two things . The wiper arm is not tight on the crank pivot , allowing the crank to move but not the wiper arm. Or the linkage from the wiper motor to the crank pivot has become disconnected .

How can I tell what size my cam is on a sbc

attach an angel /degrees disc to the crank shaft. fix a dial indicator to the inlet rocker. turn the crank until the rocker just starts to move. set the plate to read 0 degrees turn the crank until the dial indicator now moves back down. When it has stopped moving read the number of degrees that the crank has turned. repeat the operation for the exhaust rocker. the two readings will give you what size the cam is. of course if the cam is out in your hand the size will be stamped in the end of it.

How do i get the engine to not move so i can remove the crank pully

Use a 1/2" impact air gun, to remove the crank bolt

You could try putting air into a cylinder, with the adapter
for a compression or leak down gauge, doubt it will work

Make a tool to hold the crank damper with damaging it
or rent one

97 ford ranger clutch goes all the way to the floorfeels like it is not connected when i try to crank it if it is in gear it jumps and wont crank .if it is in neutral it cranks but dies if you try to

97 should be hydraulic, so you may need to check the master and slave cylinders. Your description sounds like the clutch disc is not moving off the flywheel.

Check and make sure the bell housing on the transmission isn't broke and trying to separate from the engine. Shifter shouldn't move while cranking unless transmission itself is moving.

I'm struggling to set the timing for my mazda etude 1996,my idling is also not stable, who can do it for me? prepered to pay, no chancers please !!!

Remove the plug from the 1st cylinder, insert a screw-driver, turn the crank by spanner until the screw-driver has moved upwards, and stopped moving. Make a mark on the crank pulley. Turn the crank further until the screw-driver starts moving downwards. Stop immediately and make another mark on the crank pulley. TDC would be right in the middle of the two marks, and your Etude should run optimally at about 12 degrees before TDC if high above sea level, otherwise 10-11 degrees should do.

2003 Mercury Sable will not move in any of the gears. It went from working perfectly to not moving in forward or reverse. It has 121,000 miles on it.

It sounds like it can be either very cheap or very expensive to fix. If you know a little about cars look under the hood at the transmission which is behind the engine.

The engine should only crank in Park and Neutral. If the engine cranks in any gear the shifter is not attached to the cable anymore. The shifter or cable is broken.

You should see something like a shift cable attached to a stem coming out the transmission. You need to determine if the cable moves or rods move. You may need to look under the floor shift too! If either end is not moving when the shifter is moving, then you just need a shift cable.

However, if the transmission levers are moving and the engine cranks only in Park or Neutral then it is the transmission.

2001 toyota solera, heard rattle, then a schwing noise, car died

how many miles? sounds like you may have broken a timing belt or chain, not sure which you have. if this is the case and it is an interference engine, you probably have done valve damage by cranking it. try removing the oil fill cap and see if you can see moving parts inside while an assistant cranks the engine. if you see the camshaft moving, the timing belt/chain is ok and you have other problems, if the camshaft is not moving, you have found your problem. if there are any loud noises while cranking stop immediatley.
