The fan will not run untill the relay kicks the A/C on.The system is low on freon not allowing the presure switch to close aloowing the relay to power the fan.Add some 134A freon to the system!

The air conditioning fan on my 1989 oldsmobile toronado trofeo with automatic temperature control doesn't work. The AC puts out cold air but the fan doesn't blow it into the cabin.

I assume you checked fuses for condition and power to and through the fuse to the fan. Locate the fan motor and check for power and ground with a volt ohm meter. Check for continuity thru the motor t make sure it is not bad.

Air Conditioning

I assume when you say the ac fan you mean the condenser fan? Take the plug loose from the fan and check it for voltage. If theres no voltage when the air is on,check the relays and fuses. If there is voltage then replace the fan motor.
