Question about 1995 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

The car overheated while my girl was driving it. I just changed oil in it a week ago. We got the car about a month ago with 103000 miles on it grandma driving and she was the original owner. After the car over heated it still ran but felt like ti wa running off 4 cyl insteed of 6 so i changed the Plugs and gaped them right and also new Plug wires the car started back up but still seemed like something was wrong (Maybe vacume leak ) but i drove it not even 1/4 a mile and it died on me. It is getting gas but seems like no spark so i changed the coil pack and no differance. it just cranks over, my mechanic told me that the CAT might be cloged and to check and see if the coil pack is giving off a spark if not to just go get a motor! WOW i said over it overheating and there is no antifreeze in the oil but im stuck and would love some suggestions. Thank to anyone that responds

As far as overheating,I would try a thermostat but before you do anything I have a couple of questions. What size engine is in it?Can you describe a little bit about how it feels like it is running on 4 cyl. instead of 6?Just feels less powerful, but it felt more powerful before it overheated? You mentioned it just cranks over so it is not running right now? Please let me know and I will reply ASAP.I am usually on in the AM EST,but will be on a little while more tonight too. Thanks,Greg

2006 Cadillac cts is burning gas faster than the normal rate after i got an oil change at jiffy lube 2 weeks ago

I dont think there is a connection between an oil change and the gallons per mile.
With that age car, I suggest a Terra engine clean. It will blow away nine years of gunk from the spark plugs, fuel injectors, cylinders and exhaust. Should give you more power, more miles..

Do u think its better to change oil eventhough we often use the suv, the last time we change was 8 months ago.

Yes. it is recommended to change your oil every 3 months or 3000 miles, whichever comes first. I had a customer brag that they never needed to change thier oil. the oil was so full of sludge (burnt oil and carbon buildup) we had to use a screw driver to poke thru it to get to what little oil was left. most vehicles will not last that long and will blow the motor. so 19.95 every 3 months or so or 2500.00 plus and weeks of your vehicle in a shop oh id say every 2 to 3 years to replace your entire engine???

Bought 6 weeks ago, supposedly engine rebuilt as. 2 days ago began to clatter like a can of nuts & bolts. Best guess so far: thrown rod. Likely cost? Pro mechanic rebuilt his sis' car. Seemed up...

DID YOU KEEP EYE ON OIL LEVEL.REBUILD ENGINE WILL USE UNTIL RINGS BREAK IN. YOU NEED TO DO A OIL AND FILTER CHANGE AFTER 500 MILES. YOU NEED TO DRIVE ENGINE ACCELERATE LIGHTLY AVOID FAST QUICK ACCELERATION IF YOU DROVE ENGINE HARD DURING BREAKIN PROCECC THE CLATTERING NOISE COULD BE BROKE PISTON RINGS.CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL AND COOLANT SYSTEM MAKE SURE ENGINE NOT OVERHEATING OR IGNITION TIMING OFF.LET PRO MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT.

Oil not lasting to next oil change. I have the oil changed every 3,000 miles at the dealership where I bought the car. For the last two years I have been forced to add oil before the 3,000 maintenance oil...

adding a little oil between changes is not unusual, depends on how much, are you checking your oil yourself ?? if not start !! check it in the morning once a week, if its near the full mark refuse anyone telling you to add, ( there are some stations that pay their employees more to sell oil) on the safe side put in a new pcv valve, its onle a couple of bucks

98 breeze oil light stays on

The oil sending unit is failing they start to leak internally into the connector. Remove the connector and see if there is any oil in it.

Car wont start

I hope you did not run it without oil. Did it overheat ? Try replacing the crank shaft sensor. It is located in the cylinder part of the the engine near the timing cover. If it overheated the temperature control sensor could have gone out too. And the Idle Position sensor. Sorry I had to tell you this. But I hope you did not blow the rings and head gasket.

Missing oil

very common problem you are burning oil. the piston rings, that nissan used are the problem. We see quite a few of the 3.5 liter engines loosing oil due to piston ring problem. nissan sais that 1qt. per 3500 miles is exceptable, but who want a vehicle that burns oil?? not me. good luck with that.
