Question about 1989 Toyota Pickup SR5

Open Question

My 1989 toyota 4x4 pick up is stuck in four wheel drive. The shifter for the four wheel wont shift back to two high. It seems that I have to pull the transmission to fix this but I really need to avoid that if possible.

SOURCE: 1998 chevy blazer won't go in to four wheel drive

It sounds like the encoder motor. That's the black plastic box on the driver's side of the transfer case. But just to make sure, the control module for the encoder motor is located behind the passenger side kick plate (inside the vehicle, passenger side, where your feet would be, outside side). Disconnect it for a few seconds and then reconnect it. If the problem still exists, you will have to repair or change your encoder motor. I grabbed one at a scrap yard for less than $100.00.

SOURCE: 4-wheel drive won't shift into gear

I take it you have the manual t-case shifter on the floor. If so check all your linkages from the shifter to the t-case, if all appears well, simply disconnect the linkage from the t-case and see if it moves if it does your problem is in the shift mechanism in the t-case. if it still wont move even while disconnected clean and lube the linkage. If this still doesn't do the trick. replace your linkage

SOURCE: How to bleed clutch system in a toyota 4x4 pick-up

The clutch bleed is similar to brake bleeding. Find the bleeder valve for the clutch. It's usually located right by the Bell Housing of the transmission where the clutch fork is. Have extra fluid handy to refill the reservoir and check the fluid level after each bleed to make sure it doesn't get too low or you'll draw air back into the system. Make sure the fluid you use meets specs for your vehicle.
Have another person get in the vehicle and pump the clutch pedal several times and hold it to the floor. Open and close the bleeder valve very quickly. Do this procedure several times until you see a steady stream of fluid gushing from the valve. You should notice the clutch pedal getting firm.
Tighten valve securely, replace dust cover, and top off fluid.

*Note: You can use a can to catch the fluid that is released so you don't have fluid flying everywhere each time you open the valve. Another way to do this procedure is to hook a hose up to the bleeder valve and submerge the other end of the hose into a can of clean fluid to keep air from getting drawn back into the system.

My truck is stuck in four wheel drive

At the risk of going to the offensive, sometimes it's the simplest thing - you ARE putting it in neutral, at a stop, engine running, with the brake pedal pressed, when trying to shift out of 4wd, yes?

2) Check for blown fuse for 4x4 shift module

3)This sounds dumm, but worked on my wife 99. I took it to a school parking lot, put it in reverse, floored it and pulled on the lever and it popped out of 4x4

4) The shift motor is bad. Replace it.

Hope this helps.

Wont shift back from 4x4 low, to 2x2

I also have a 2002 Envoy. Shifting to and from 4wh and 4wa can be done on the fly but shifting to 4wL has to be done stoped and while in neutral. Try that. Otherwise I'm afraid its a new computer for you. Its located under the left rear seat and you need a loan for one.

1993 4X4 BLASER 4WHEEL DRIVE

Your blazer is equipped with a shift on the fly four wheel drive. That means that at speeds less than fifteen miles per hour you can shift into or out of four wheel drive by simply pushing the four wheel high button. If you wish to shift into four wheel low. Stop, put the transmission into park or neutral, and push the four wheel low button. Same procedure for shifting back out. Never shift into or out of four wheel low while moving. And be careful in four wheel low. At full throttle your still barely moving, you don't want to blow your engine up!

I disconnected the electronic control on the transfer case and it seems to have unlocked the 4x4

At the back of the transfer case, near the top, there is a connector. I unplugged it and that seems to have disconnected the 4x4. My 2002 Explorer was stuck in 4x4, even though the 4x4 light was not on and I hit the Auto button a lot.

Shifting to four wheel drive.

If the Amigo is like other fwd setups, you should be able to pull the floor shifter back one notch for fwd in the standard(or high)driving range.I don't know if you can shift "on the fly" with the Amigo,so I would shift it to 4x4 while stopped in nuetral. When you pull the shifter to the left(towards the driver)and all the way back, that should be 4x4 in the low range(for speeds under 20 mph only). I would not recomend that you drive you vehicle on the highway in low range....The button on the dash may actually be a light to let you know when you are using the fwd. Make sure you kick it back to 2wd when you return on dry pavement.Any Isuzu dealers' service department can also help you on the matter. Good Luck!

1988 suzuki samurai WONT MOVE

First thing just try to push or pull the 4x4 lever if you get it to move and it feels like it went into some gear try to drive the truck. If this works look on the shifter for the 4x4 and put it in 2 wheel drive (H2 is two wheel drive,H4 is 4x4 high, and L4 is 4x4 low range).Make sure you have the clutch depresed when you try to move the 4x4 lever. If you try this stuff with no fix try and look for clutch adjustment on the transmision you may need to adjust it or your clutch is bad.

try putting your truck in neutral and then shifting into 2 wheel drive shift on the fly does not apply to 4 low only 4 high and on electric shift models it wont shift unless your ****** is in neutral.
