Question about Nissan Altima

Will a bad knock sensor shut off the engine? 1999 altima 4 cylinder code P0325 knock sensor problem as the only code car was driving and shut off in the middle of the road. thanks

Usually when the knock sensor starts to fail your car will start to experience acceleration problems and a declining fuel economy. Frequently, the car will start to become sluggish. The sensor rarely fails outright and instead will start registering engine knock when there isn't any and the ECU will dial down the engine performance and slow the ignition timing in response. Reasons for failure include corroded connectors in the wire between the sensor and the EPU or internal failure of the sensor itself since it is very sensitive to vibrations. So, yes, it could possibly cause the engine to shut down completely.

A knock sensor tells the engine computer when one or more of your engine's cylinders are "knocking", that is, exploding the air/fuel mixture in a way that delivers less power and can be damaging to the engine if prolonged.

Codes p0171 p0303 p0325 car missing


p0171 = fuel system too lean, this means vacuum leak or faulty oxygen sensor

p0303 = cylinder 3 misfire

p0325 = knock sensor malfunction.

p0303 and p0325 - i can see these working together, if a cylinder misfires, it will cause the knock sensor to trip. I would lean towards the coil and or ignition module, along with a faulty oxygen sensor.

I have a 2004 pilot, VTS4 and engine light came on. i have a p0325 knock sensor circ. bank A. just replace the sensor?? also i can seem to find any diagrams. any help appreciated!!!


It does sound like the sensor may be bad, but you also need to check the wiring.

p0304 misfire on cylinder #4
p0325 knock sensor circuit

Could be a bad wire, plug, or coil pack on cylinder #4 (or bad distributor connection).

Knock sensor indicates a knock coming from the engine, perhaps from cylinder #4.

This may lead to a diagnosis if you change parts related to cylinder #4.

Understanding trouble codes for my vehicles


first the quest, this is common for nissan, replace the knock sensor, this sensor is located under the intake manifold rear of engine, some models you can sneak sensor out without removing the intake, this will take care of that car. now the camry, im guessing this is a 4 cylinder engine, replace the air fuel sensor (oxygen sensor) thats on the exhaust manifold. this will solve that problem. hope this helped.
