Question about 1999 GMC Safari

1 Answer

We have a 1999 GMC Safari in excellent condition. The heater works (blower motor), the AC works, but nothing comes out of the main dash ducting. It stopped all of a sudden. When the Ac is turned on- it only comes out of the side ducting that helps kept eh front side windows clear. The fuses are all good also. It's like something is blocked- but it happened all of a sudden. Can find nothing at all in Chilton type repair manuals. The air ports under the dash on the passenger sides keep letting the air out- they are not restricted so to speak. The main rotating selector switch on the dash- the one that you can select AC, Heater, Defroster etc is the one that used to make the air come out the main ducts. Now it does not seem to make a difference when using it. Thanks for your help.

Only high speed works on fan motor

This condition is caused by a defective blower motor speed control resistor. The resistor is located right next to the blower motor with the connector end sticking out of the ducting for the AC/Heater system. Very easy to replace and the part is cheap as well.

1999 gmc safari blower motor works perfect but no air comes out of the ac vents only defrost vent works

you have a sucked shut or broken vacuum line under the hood somewhere. mine was burnt and broke, same problem. it is a little, skinny, hard vacuum line from left side of motor over to right across the front.

Heater/AC control switch only operates in high speed. Allother positions don't run.

Sounds like resistor gone, which is in circuit between your controls and the blower motor. Usually located under dash near ducting, or near blower motor, which I believe in your vehicle is located under hood on passenger side firewall area. I normally will follow harness (wiring) from blower and work back to switch at dash to locate resistor. When you check at autoparts store or dealer for new blower resistor, they should be able to tell you probable location if not exact, as well as whether it may be possibly built in to blower motor assembly.

Blower moter won't run blower good

replace the fan resistor located on the side of the heater box under the dash usually on the passenger side this controls the fan motor speed along with the switch itself.

A/c and heater not working.

Check your fuses. Is the blower not working???? When you turn your ac on do you hear a click????? Chances are if the heat and AC are not working, your blower motor is bad or your fuse is bad.

LOCATION OF BLOWER MOTOR IS UNDERHOOD ON PASSENGER SIDE NEAR WINDSHIELD. RESISTOR IS LOCATED IN THIS GENERAL VICINITY ALSO. THE RESISTOR WILL STICK DOWN IN THE EVAPORATOR CASE AND HAS SEVERAL WIRES COMING OUT OF IT. THE CONNECTOR BODY IS BLACK OR GREY. HOPE THIS HELPED YOU!

Air conditioner fan runs on high only

Check the blower motor resistor pack.
This is usually located in the blower motor ducting in the air stream.
