Question about 1998 Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

I had my 1998 Isuzu trooper repaired for the cylinder heads, when the mechanic returned the car, he told me that the computer showed that the oxigen sensor located before the catalytic converter,on the passanger side needed to be replaced, lately i notice that when the car goes in slow speed it slips, constantly, I haven't replace the sensor, could it be cause of the slippage?

Slippage is terminology for transmission problems. If the engine revs but does not climb up to speed right away, this is slipping. Your O2 sensor would not cause this problem. I my guessing this slipping did not exist before the cylinder head replacement? If not, perhaps an electrical connection was not properly connected.

Thank you, the engine revs briefly and then climbs to speed right away , it is done while it goes very slow, if electrical connection any suggestions?

TCC connector ( torque converter clutch solenoid) or a possible loose or not connected engine ground wire.

Thank you, for your help, I forgot to mention that the check engine light, comes on and off, does this mean anything to you?

  • GetMeOttaHere Aug 05, 2010

Yes it does, this means the PCM sensed a fault in a circuit or component. There is a trouble code that is stored in the PCM memory, and the light alerts the operator and a technican of a problem. You can have this code retrieved from the vehicle, Autozone or any other quality automotive supply store will come out and perform this procedure for FREE. It my be a good idea at this pint, unless you have a scanner or trouble code.

One last question, if this code is retrieved, will that find the solution, will the problem go away?

No, this will give a place to start with diagnosis and repair.

How much for lifters on a 1998 izusu trooper? And will that make you engine nock?

Lifters generally make a tick, tick, tick noise. If you have a low tone knock, you may have more severe issues, or what you may have is heavy carbon build-up on the pistons, contacting the cylinder head(s). What I suggest first is to use fuel injection cleaner and add it to the fuel tank a few times. You can go to your local part store and see what other products they have, such as "Seafoam," to assist in carbon removal. Extreme conditions may actually require the removal of the cylinder head(s) to gain access to the top of the pistons to physically scrape the carbon from them.
