Have your transmission inspected for low transmission fluid and condition. It sounds from what you have described to be a transmission low on fluid and your transmission pump is whining from lack of fluid.
Try not to run the car to hard until you have checked the level of the transmission fluid and low fluid will damage the transmission due to lack of lubrication through out.

Driving in town and when I back off the accelerator at around 50km's the engine makes a deeper whurring sound. Also when I drive over 80km's it does the same.

that sounds like a possible rod insert connecting bearing... loose insert and can be catastrophic you need to have it analysed ASAP..under pressure of acceleration it will hold but around 2200 rpm it will sound rackety when you let off the accelerator..then hold at 2000-2500 RPM and let up and down quickly..if you here any unstable dinging or clicking..get it verified by a good mechanic..GOD BLESS

Sound when turning the wheels, only happens when the car is cold

This sounds as if the axle bearing is rusty or wear down. You might consider changing it. Don't waist time trying to figure it out why? things get old and needs to be change after time.

Won't turn over... just makes a clicking sound... and a wierd humming sound.

Try cleaning your terminals at the battery, even if not corroded. In my years as an alarm/radio installer I have come across this problem constantly, especially on GM vehicles.

In the morning when I take off there is a loud whinning sound coming from the front left side of the car. I hear it when a accelerate and decelerate (sp). It only does it when it's cold out but after...

this is a common problem with volkswagon and audi cars they have what is called a secondary air injection motor which usually only works at start up .this motor goes bad and makes the sound you hear it must be replaced .it is held on with 3 ten millimeter bolts and two air plastic lines that you have to squeeze to remove and an electrical connector. goodluck.

I had a similiar problem and actually my gear changer in the car was getting hard to move and eventaully stuck.turns out the gear changer was only moving the gears part way and created a wierd sound.Anyway my mechanic found a new gear changing mechanism and installed it .Since then no problems---thank God.

Car wont start-not a gig

it sounds as if you might have to replace the battery, if your battery is shot you can still get a boost and the car will run because the alternator produces electricity which should take car of the cars functions and top up the charge on the battery. if the battery is no longer taking the charge or not holding it as soon as you shut it off it will not have enough power to start the starter. A lot of automotive place will do a check on your battery if you take it to them.

please note that i'm not a mechanic and this is just based on my own experiance
