The wiring diagram does not show that it is going to a relay but the trouble shooting guide says to check the main relay. It is supposed to be square & under the dash near the steering columb next to the fuel pump relay which is round. I could not find either.

Hi! If you are referring to the main relay box then it will be located under the hood inline with the fender. Used to work on one with the same problem and cant find any fault on the relays or fuses. Sooner I tried to swap the PCM (powertrain control module) from another car and it run good. The PCM has connectivity on all electrical current that runs inside the car which includes the engine and transmission. You might wanna try that. Hope this helps and have a good one!

It should be under the hood in the relay center. You can also follow the wire up from the control solenoid.
.3 is not a good reading at all.

Have you ever dealt with this issue before on a Subaru? What would be a good reading?

Sorry, you are right. I was thinking that was the resistance of the relay itself. But since that is a ground reading, you are good. The relay is the most common thing to go in the outback/legacy.

How come my wagon won't start but only sometimes?

Sounds like weak connection somewhere,I would start by one at a time, clean by scraping the prongs of each fuse. If this does not resolve your issue go by one of the parts houses that provide free electrical and charging system checks

Is there an access pannel under the rear seat of 1999 subaru legacy outback to access the top side fuel tank?

Yes, under the rear seat bottom on a sedan or behind the rear seat back on the panel under the carpet on the cargo area, right behind the seat back, screws hold the panel on, fuel pump right below it, easy to replace...I just did mine,1998 Legacy Wagon.

For a 1999 Subaru Legacy does it have just the screw on transmission filter or is there also one in the pan?

I have a 99 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon also. I just changed my fluid & filters. There is a spin-on AND a bolt-in that's inside (you have to drop the pan).

Steering wheel clicks on 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon

steering column bearing sounds like a worn out steering column... jack the front wheels off the ground both sides relieve load on steering wheel to see if it lessens the amount of feel and noise, if it does it shoud be the column bearing, replace bearings or complete column,,, also try with the wheels off the ground and safely supported to manualy steer the wheels by hand and see if you feel in roughness or hear any noises, should some minor resistance but be smooth in it movement if everything suspension and steering component wise is in good working condition... please rate my help.. thanks...

1998 Subaru Outback Wagon Grinding Noise/Squeaky Brake/Gas Gauge

The first issue, I would have the brake calipers checked for either a pin stuck or one of the pistons stuck, It is a dual piston caliper and sometimes one will stick causing pad to angle slightly. While inspecting the brake issue also check your wheel bearings, which may be the squeak. On the fuel issue, I will tell you a secret, LOL, but Subaru has set the fuel gauge to read E but still have about 5 gallons of fuel left. I use US measurements, but trying to use my head I believe you are getting about 22-24 MPG from what you said and that is pretty good. I hope this helps a bit and have a great day.
