Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier with a manual transmission. This morning when I turned on the key there is a loud consistent sound behind the center of the dashboard where the stereo/air controls/vents are. It is a clicking sound. I drove it to work and it never changed even though I turned on and off the stereor and air/heat. It does it as long as the key is on. The engine does not need to be running. Any ideas what it is? Thanks. Lisa

Sounds like the air vent actuator has gone bad and will need to be replaced. Try changing the settings to your vent and temperature to see if the noise goes away or you can try resetting it but disconnecting the battery for 2 min and reconnecting it again.
The vent actuators will sometimes loose there knowledge or position and will try to keep moving the vent, even though it is at it's limits. If resetting it does not help, good chance is that the plastic gears in the actuators have gone bad and the whole unit will need to be replace if you have lost any controls to your vent or air temperature.
Thank you for using fixya and please keep us posted.

My 04 chevy cavalier won't start after head gasket replacement cranks with loud bass pop from speakers

You obviously have an electrical short, Power seems to be pulling directly off engine to sound system somehow. Never heard this one before. First thing I'd do is check where wire is feeding to sound system and eliminate it.

My 2004 chevy cavalier won't start it is stuck in

Your shifter cable sounds like it separated from the transmission or shifter or just broke. you are probably stuck in a moving gear so the neutral safety switch is disabling the ignition.

Hello, hope you may have an answer for me. My wife owns a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, Automatic. It was running good. But this morning she went to start it and it will not start! Battery has juice, power is...

It sounds like you hit the nail right on the head. If your battery has a good charge then the problem is either your starter or your solenoid. However you cant really replace just the solenoid now a days because they started making the starter and solenoid all as one piece quite a while back. If you replace the starter it should solve your problem. I hope this helps you out.

2004 cavalier died going down the rd.when you try to start it it makes a lot of odd buzzig sounds in the dash and you cant hear the fuel pump kick on

If the buzzing sounds like chatter, its a fuel pump relay that is either not getting enough voltage, a loose
connection, or you may just need to replace the relay.sometimes these relays will be behind the dash, accessible, or within your fuse block area, on chevy trucks i have seen them behind the glove box.
good luck!

How do you check transmission fluid on a 2004 Cavalier? Can't find a dip dtick anywhere.

look above the trans, should be there, sometimes a different color. If no luck check your manual or look for one online, call a dealer. My 94 stick was yellow.

i have seen this on a car that was traded in. apparently it had been real hot at one time. but with no compression it will not start, and would probably be cheaper to purchase another engine. sorry, and GL
