    Hi,

    FOLLOW UP QUESTION
Your advice seems a lttle bit risky because
some electronicequipment can be damaged by the procedure you suggest, or is it safe??

    MORE INFORMATION
After a test on a BMW computer no clear conclusion came up,
    the BMW-operator therefore assumed :
    a) that some finetuning work had not been done properly
    b) that the M5 instrument requires some additional connection parts compared with the 540 Instrument

Because further examination at BMW could require a lot of hours - without any guarantee as regards a solution I decide to find out more by contacting specialist like yourself, before I decide what to do.
If am prepared to pay for problemsolving consultancy assistance

Try disconnecting both the positive battery cable and the negative cables from the battery and touch them together for about 30 seconds. then try the locks again if that does not work there is a chance that they connected the battery backwards for a second and did some damage to the ZKE/General module. If that is the case i would find BMW service shop to look at it. Sounds like a job for the Dealership, a reprogramming of the computer.

After being engaged in this auto world of excitement and adventure there are certain jobs that lead me to believe that the unfortunate conclusion to all this is a hands on hourly diagnostic charge to completely figure out what someone else did and didn't do and as to what other things someone else may have entirely screwed up, this is no longer a cut and dry performance of just a defunct door opener remote, it is becoming a bit larger in the spectrum of finding not only the cure but the reason why all else went wrong.

If this were a vehicle in my shop back in the day I would make it quite clear that the customer has to be willing to pay my hourly wage in hopes to find the screw up caused by another mechanic, these are difficult electrical issues that in my opinion cannot be solved by a simple e mail answer but rather by a "competant" hands on shop like I said above to repair and conclude.

I understand your dillemna however I think you are reaching a bit for something that will only drive your blood pressure up.

Save up and find through word of mouth etc. a shop in the area that is believed to be top notch, allow them about 2-3 hours to give you a hands on report of what they have found and by that time they should have an idea of exactly how much you are going to spend for the complete repair parts and labor, usually a reputable shop will reduce some if not all of the diagnostic time and roll it into the time needed to do the repair.

In answer to your above question touching the cables together will not affect anything you are not touching the cables live causing a reverse feed, just static energy release if it works? The 30 second is also giving the computer a labotomy and remobving anything from its storeage cell that may interfere with your search.

The odometer light does not show the miliage

What make , model and year vehicle ? depending on the vehicle and where that info is generated from could be a BCM - body control module , insturment cluster problem or PCM - engine computer. Taking the vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has a diagnostic scan tool that can check data from the point of origin to the insturment cluster is the proper way to diagnose this type problem . On most vehicle if a module or insturment cluster needs to be replaced programming will need to be done .

Instrument cluster dead after Battery replaced

It is possible AAA worker connected the battery backwards for just a second and got a big spark. This can cause major issues, but sometimes just minor ones, such as blown fuses. Check every fuse for starters. There are also fusible links in the wiring which can be blown.

Interior Lights, Radio, and Gear Indicator Light on Cluster will not turn off when power is connected

The door actuator ,door ajar switch has nothing to do with the Gear Indicator Light on Cluster . Did you have the BCM programmed ? Can't just replace this without programming . Having the BCM check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes should have been the first step in the diagnostic's for this problem an testing power an grounds . Is the door ajar light lit on the insturment cluster ? If not ,it's not a door actuator or door ajar switch .

Important: Perform new BCM setup when you replace Body Control Module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .
Fuse Block
Right side of the IP, in the right front door opening
RAP relay ,contacts stuck closed . Right I/P fuse box ! Open the passenger door ,at the end of insturment panel pull plastic cover !

BMW Keyless Entry not working

hi, to program the keys to the vehicle is quite simple

1) open the vehicle, sit inside and close the door

2) insert the key in the ignition and turn to position 1 so that just the air bag light illuminates

3) press and hold the unlock button on the key and remove the key from the ignition (do not release the unlock button)

4) while still holding the unlock button with the key removed press the lock button 3 times

5) release the unlock button on the remote and the door locks should lock and unlock if the proceedure has been carried out correctly

6) to program any other key(s) press and hold the unlock button on remote and again press the lock button 3 times but do not insert it into the ignition or turn the ignition on as done previous.

you may want to print these instructions and read them a few times before proceeding, if you muck up the process while programing keys, no harm will be done, you just have to start the process over. hope this is of some help, regards mark.
