Question about Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

Hi, Drove my 1996 pontiac firebird 3.8 v6 to a workshop (in uk) to check my radiator fans, it then would not start when the mechanic tried to take it out of the workshop. The security light flashes when ignition is on but there is nothing when turning key further,no starter motor at all. Q, is my key shot? is a relay out or fuse blown??or have they done somekind of sequence with the locking with fob or is the problem much bigger?. I now have the car in my drive way after having it towed back. thanks for any help. Nigel.

It sounds more like the anti theft device has been kicked on, Does it have one? Do you know where the switch is? If not, disconnect the battery and let it set for 5 mins, then put it back. I don't know what happened but it doesn't sound good. Do you have another key with the chip in it? I know that those chips don't go bad, GM will replace the lock on the column and glue the chip key inside the dash so that the computer can read it. Hope this helps.

I have a 89 pontiac firebird Trans Am "GTA" 5.7L tuned port injected. My engine gets hot somehow and my car has a quick start but lower power afterward. What could the problem be?

Fix the radiator cooling problems. You will damage the engine if you keep running the car in an overheated condition.

1. Replace the thermostat in the cooling system
2. Replace the water pump
3. Flush the cooling system thoroughly and re-fill with the correct coolant. Bleed any air out of the system otherwise you will have problems with air blockages and thus poor coolant flow.

You probably do not know how to do any of this so take it to a reputable workshop or cooling specialist to have it done.

1994 v6 Firebird I have overheating issues recently, replaced hoses, cooling fan and radiator. It seems to be circulating from water pump. I do not know which way to turn now, no leaks that I see only when...

Water pump might not be flowing fast enough. Be sure fans actually turn on instead of just sitting there. Change oil. You could have something in the motor causing excessive heat. Piston friction or cam problems ect. Try a synthetic oil.

1996 Pontiac Firebird is running hot

You can do the following with a cold car.

The switch for the electric fan is in the radiator (it responds to the temperature of the water in the radiator, not the temperature of the water in the engine). With the engine running, if the switch has 2 wire on it, pull those two wires and briefly touch them together. If it has only 1 wire, tough that wire to ground. The fan should come on. If it does, the problem is the switch. If not, then the relay or the fan, or the fan's fuse is to blame.

My husband changeted the radiator hose on my v6

Are U sure the coolant is full and all the air is out of the cooling system? if the engine was badly overheated then u may have damaged the cylinder head gaskets, this can cause the cold air as well as low coolant..
