There are two on the rear of the block. If leaking, the coolant will be coming from inside the bellhousing. This part you won't like....you need to remove the transmission to get at them. Check carefully that nothing external is leaking before doing anything further.

97 Taurus overheating

Let's take a look at some of the most common causes. This is the primary cause of engine overheating. Possible leak points include hoses, the radiator, water pump, thermostat housing, heater core, head gasket, freeze plugs, automatic transmission oil cooler, cylinder heads and block. Perform a pressure test to see if you have any leaks. This year had rust issues with the cooling system, was the TSB done?

What you are describing sounds like what's called a freeze-plug. These are round plugs or inserts in the engine that are designed to pop out if the coolant should freeze to avoid cracking the block. the orange goo is rust mixed with coolant. This indicates that the freeze plug is leaking coolant and should be replaced (not a major job).

I have a 1996 jeep cherokee 2wd 4.0L and it is leaking coolant quiet heavily from between where engine and trans meet. Top of the trans is dry. Coolant is coming from inside bell housing between engine and...

Yes, in back of your engine block, there two freeze plugs, these plugs hold water or coolant in the block, to replace these freeze plugs, transmission will have to be remove, if your going to get this done, I would also have the rear main seal replace at the same time, should not cost you much labor to do this, due to if it starts to leak oil from there in the future, transmission will have to come out again, this will save you money and time down the road, hope this was very helpful.

Cracked block? Eh... You can try to have it welded but thats not a promising fix. I think you may have signed your jeeps death certificate. On the bright side you can pick up a used motor from a salvage for around $450. Try welding it. Its worked for me before.

It could be leaking from the intake manifold on the back of the engine which will run down the transmission and on the floor or ground. Othwer wise the only other places it could leak would be out of the water pump or front of the engine. The heater core could be leaking also which would or could leak on the ground. Where your service engine light came on, you have codes set which you need to retrieve and post on here so we can see what they are saying. You can go to one of the auto parts stores and most of them will pull the codes for free. As far as the interior heat issue it is probably because your heat exchanger doors are not working properly or some of the duct work as come loose or are plugged.

Leaking coolant from the rear of the engine compartment near the ac drain on a 97 isuzu rodeo 3.2 litre. Not coming from the heater core hoses.Cant seem to find the leak.

try using a mirror to see in the rear of the motor because ther are freez or welch plugs at th rear of the head & engine block!
it may also be leaking behind the flywheel & can only be seen coming from where the transmission or gearbox bolts to th motor!
Cheers Rob

Car leaking coolant

First of all ensure that your car is leaking coolant fluid, and what is dripping is not just water condensation from the air conditioner.
If you have a coolant liquid leak, it can be from one of the ducts leading to radiator , from water pump or radiator itself. Check liquid levels, and if you have a leak have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic.
A broken water pump, for example, can cause your motor to blow in few miles.
