Hi:) First thing a old time mechanic would check is the compression of the cylinders
if you are below 120 pounds pressure on a few cylinders you could be having trouble getting the engine to fire. Cause would be worn rings, burnt valves, blowen head gasket or cracked head.

Most probably its a low fuel pressure related problem.Get the fuel pressure checked. If its low then this is faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter issue.the other possibilities are,-----

A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also this problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt.If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the care. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If it very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gage and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start. ---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem.Thanks.Helpmech.

When I turn over my t100 it takes about 45 sec or even longer before it will fire up. After motor is running truck runs just fine without any issues I worry that once winter hits it won't start at all

try turning key on but not to the cranking position and wait 30 seconds before cranking . that will give the fuel pump time to build pressure . you may have a leak or a weak pump .

Bmw 530d cranks over for 30 seconds before firing up, hot or cold

Try turning the ignition on (not to turn the engine over but only on) for 5 seconds and then off then repeat that three or four times then try and start it. If it starts up immediately after that then you have a fuel pressure problem and by doing this you are priming up the high pressure fuel rail. possible causes are a fuel filter blockage, if you dont know the history of the fuel filter then replace it, or could be a pump issue or a pressure regulator on the rail issue.

I have a 325 tds bmw starts not to bad in the morning takes a bit of turning but seems to run ok but if stoped for 10 mins after a good run it turns over for a good bit before it will start again just got...

You may have a bad fuel pressure regulator. Once the engine fires the fuel flows good and you have pressure, but when the engine is off, the pressure isn't there to force fuel to the injectors. It's a possible but it could be numerous things.

1995 bmw 318i will not start once the car is up to operating tempature, once turned off it seems that it must cool down to be able to start again.

Possible causes: Fuel pump relay, Pump, Fuel Filter, Regulator, Crank Shaft Sensor, Camshaft Sensor, Loos Connection(try to wiggle the wiring harness and observe). or faulty Ignation Switch.

Observe if the engine will lack of power first before to shut off, if this is the scenario it could be a fuel pump relay or pump. I suggest you to monitor the fuel pressure first or try to swap fuel pump relay to other as long as same color or figure and observe it.

If the senario is sudden cut off, it coud be a faulty cranck shaft sensor. a faulty cranck shaft sensor is easy to determine using tachometer while cranking, if the sensor is faulty the tachometer will not move or rise even a little bit if it's good it will rise a bit while cranking the engine.

Check fuel pump when the problem occur, try to ignition ON/Off and listen to fuel pump motor noise from underneath (close to rear right side tire), the pump will operates for aprox 5 sec. everytime you turned ON the ignition switch. and if you can't hear noise then you have to focus to fuel system.
