Question about Volvo V70

1 Answer

When I accelerate on my 2002 volvo v70 turbo, there is an intermittent grinding sound. I am not punching it so I don't think it is the turbo. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side.

Is it more noticable at high speed/low speed? Is the transmission manual or automatic?Do you notice if it is at high RPM or low RPM?Open your window and see if it is much more noticable,if it already isn't open.Right now I am guessing possibly wheel bearing,CV axle or maybe both.CV axle comes out of the bottom of the engine to the tire with a joint connection. Please let me know about the questions though,it may help more. Thanks and good luck!

I put a used tranny in a few months ago...it occurs at low speeds. i dont feel any shift or pull when it makes the noise? CV??? It is pouring rain but I will be in it in the AM

How long has it been going on?When my CV goes I usually don't feel any pull either.Wheel bearing is not likely to cause pull, just grinding because it's just going to make noise from the rough circles.Let me know what happens in the AM.The latest I should be on is noon tomorrow EST.

    sorry...what is a "CV"????thanks

Your car should be front wheel drive correct?I just assume that these days because everything is.The CV is a short axle which comes out of the transmission and drives the tires through a joint connection. There is one on each side.If it does need one, make sure they check the other one thoroughly if you do not fix it yourself. Also, any time you get CV's done,or replace the tires on whichever end is driven(front tires for front wheel drive),you should get a front end alignment(rear for rear driven w/ new tires),so you get even wear on your tires.I did CV's once on my car,got 30K or 40 K tires(new),didn't get the alignment, and they wore out balded on the edges in about half the rated mileage.Talk to you in the AM.Off to bed.Wife will be soooo mad.lol.

2002 volvo v70xc, car has dual climate controls, drivers side a/c blows cold, passenger side is only cool to warm, both setting are on the coldest setting.

Have same issue with my xc70 cold to coolish on drivers side and warm to hot on pass... slowly, with driving, pass side becomes cool. Slight swoosh sound from dash attributed to A/C is intermittent. Thought to be kinked tube or puncture? : (

Thoughts?

Find a transmission servicer that is not afraid of tackling a Volvo problem. This is probably why the car was for sale in the first place. Good luck!

I have a volvo v70 d5, an my intercooler has a slight leak. could this affect my performance, as i accelerate hard, engine service urgent light comes up on dash. i have changed my air mass sensor, it made...

Yes, your intercooler is a problem cos it cools down the turbo charger. The turbo is what gives you your extra power, and when it overheats, it loses pressure and thatcauses loss of power.

What is the size of a Volvo v70 engine?

There are 3 engine choices in the 98 volvo v70. All are 5 cylinders, 1. 2.3L turbo
2. 2.4L MFI DOC
3.2.4L Turbo
#2 is the most common engine for that year and model. If your engine doesn't have a turbo, that's the one u have.
