most chevys have a yellow wire in the harnes that goes to the steering colum that is the security and I have had to just cut the wire to eliminate it but I would check a wire diagrahm before cutting

security will no be affected but if you don what to do things like re-set the clock or the car has a stereo with a code and you dont have the code anymore its better if you use a sigarret plug with a 9 volt battery they're sold at any automovile store specifically to maintain settings. hope this helps

If it is the antitheft,then shut all doors,and the hood and set the alarm,then disarm it,this will allow vehicle to start.If it is the key fob,turn the key on for ten minutes,and then turn it off,and right back on,repeat this process three times,a total of 30 minutes to relearn the key fob.
