2001 Ford Focus. There is a click noise (like a u-joint) in reverse and forward as I let the clutch out. I jacked the car up and checked for u-joint play but found none. the right tire has

The focus has so many engine mounts and transmission mount failures. Check the trans mount under the aircleaner assembly for cracking and excess movement when placed in gear. I dont recall front mount but if theere is movement it is best to replace them all at the same time. The trans mount and right engine mount are the easiest to replace. But for forward and backwards movements and noises replace the front ( if applicable) and rear engine mounts.

Replace motor mounts

You need to replace the Motor Mounts? These are very straight forward...

Buy the 3 Mounts (might as well do the Trans mount while you are doing them all... You will notice a difference Immediately

Use a floor Jack, take weight slightly off the mount, remove the center bolt on the FORWARD one, then remove the 3 mount Bolts that hold it to the Frame, and reassemble.

Do the Top Mount by the Camshaft the same way

Transmission mount is a little harder but you have to get under the car to do this one... Still need the Floor Jack

But they are pretty straight forward, nothing Fancy to get it done...

Estimated time to do ALL 3..... 50-75 minutes....

Feel thumping noise when slowing down then picking up speed. had all four motor mounts replaced - no help.

Does your corolla have a separate transmission mount? If it's not your drive train (engine and ******) slumping forward and back, and it's not an internal problem(inside transmission), then it likely is a suspension problem, like your struts, or a broken sway bar or link. Good luck.

What is the mechanic referring to when he says my 96 Kia Sephia might have a broken spider gear? When I'm going forward it shifts real smooth into 2nd gear, then it jerks forward & makes a clunking...

I think he's referring to a gear inside the transmission, part of a planetary gear set. The symptoms point twards a transmission problem, a mount cannot cause this.

My 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan makes Whining Noise

Depending on your mileage, if the transmission is mounted side ways (Front wheel Drive) the upper or top, or rear mount can wear out. This causes the engine and transmission to twist binding the linkage on the transmission, However I have not see a 2007 and if it was bad the drive train should still be under warranty if it's not over 100,000 miles. The tork on the other mounts could cause this noise you are speaking of. Also they use oil filled mounts to isolate the engine pulses so when the oil leaks out the motor mount goes metal to metal. However I think the brakes not holding tight so in theory a motor mount could cause this could cause it. A way to test it is put the transmission in forward gear then reverse if it makes a clunking sound then you have some wear somewhere. If you have another person put it in forward and reverse and watch the engine you can find where the noise is coming from. However I will see if it is listed as an after market part and give you a link that you can look at and the price for each. After looking at one of the mounts this may not be your problem here is the link and the price for one of the mounts.
