Replace neutral switch on 87 mercury grang marquis

Check the starter solenoid, that is what sends the voltage to the starter. If that is not the problem check the ignition switch.

Can I change the solenoid on my 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup, 6 cyl without removing the starter or do I have to replace the whole starter?

Most starters now a days have the solenoid integrated into the starter and are therefore irremovable. Replace the whole starter.

Think i may need a new starter. all the electricals are working fine, just can't get it to turn over, even when trying to jump it. when trying to start it, it just makes one click, not a continuous...

Either the battery is bad

Or the starter solenoid is bad

Remove the starter,take solenoid off,
and open it up & look at contacts,
most likely burnt

How to install starter on a 1992 buick lesabre ?

Hello Bellamy.
When removing starter, note if any shims are used between the starter and mounting surface. If shims are found, reinstall in original locations. If starter is noisy during cranking, remove one .015 inch double shim or add one .015 inch single shim to the outer bolt. If starter makes a high pitched whine after engine start, add .015 inch double shims until noise ceases.

Disconnect battery ground cable and raise and support vehicle. Remove starter braces, shields or other components that may hinder starter removal.
Support starter and remove mounting bolts.
Lower starter and disconnect solenoid wires and battery cable.
Remove starter from vehicle.
Reverse procedure to install.

There you are, remember to use safety glasses to keep your vision protected.
Use proper safety stands and wheel chocks to support the vehicle while under it.

Take care.

Starter install 1992 buick roadmaster how to remove

Do you mean the starter-motor removal?
Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the red/positive battery cable from the starter. Trace the red/positive cable to where it ends (that's the starter), disconnect it from the solenoid. Use applicable socket wrench/flat-wrench to unbolt/remove the starter-motor. Installation is reverse of removal.

Starter

hi clarence,

first of all you need to know what is the starter in order to remove it. if you can trace the big wire that comes from the positive wire of your battery to a big round thing at the bottom part of the engine. that round thing is the starter. before you start removing bolts, remove first that big wire from the positive terminal of the battery. it is normally bolted to the engine by three or two bolts. there are two wires that you need to remove first before removing the starter. a big wire from the battery and a small wire that controls the solenoid of the starter. after you remove the wire, remove the bolts that is holding the starter in place and the starter would drop down. the you can repalce it or repair it.

i hope i was able to solve your problem. please rate me.. tnx.
