If you have a rear AC evaporator, it is a warrantee repair. I got an extra 100k warrantee on the AC. btw the entire AC quit working although it was the rear unit with the problem.

My 1986 300e air conditioner works great, then cuts off. I start he car and it works great and ice cold. Then goes warm. Is it freon?

First your ac comp has a clutch. second r 12 and r134 are NOT compatible if you just "add a pound of r134" you will kill your entire ac system. The O rings, dryer and pressure switches are not interchangeable nether are the lubricants and you WILL burn up your ac comp. Just a word or caution. It is probably the ac speed sensor to detect slip.

Air cond comp clutch not engauging when switched works direct from batt. with jumper wire also a warning light on the dash lights up indicating a nocharge state but as soon as i switch on the...

Have a look at the AC switch or or the relay if there is one incorporated in the system, one of them could be faulty. If the alternator is overcharging it could show up in the warning light and this would go out when something like the headlights reduce the voltage from the alternator. Have the charging system checked, or put a volt meter on the battery with the engine running at about 2000 rpm, the meter should read no more than 14.5 volts. If it does, replace the regulator.

My air cond. clutch is grinding. i unplugged it. i'm still driving it. untili can afford toreplace it, is this going to hurt anything because the belt is connected to a pulley on it???

You should be OK. DIsconnecting the AC clutch if the compressor was shot was a good idea. The pulley should spin freely on its bearing without any problems. Replacing the AC clutch can be done but there are a lot of parts and stages to go through so if you decide to go down that route make sure you start early in the day, be patient and take your time. Most clutches are to a pattern design and there maybe some walk-through repairs on youtube which would be a useful to familiarise yourself with the repair refurbishment issues. The pain with AC systems is the environmentally safe removal of the gas and subsequent recharging of the system. Good luck

Before you go looking for a electrical problem, Have you checked the freon level? If it is low, the low pressure switch will shut down the clutch.

Vitara JX 1.6 soft-top. Made in Spain 1998. Engine runs at 2000rpm when cold and only returns to idle after 10 mins or 6 miles in warm conditions. Can i adjust anything ? ps. I live in England

maybe slow, cold start, air control valve or,possibly normal for temp in morning,I live in Australia and cars can take ages to slow down in winter eg1 to 3 deg cel...and very quickly warm up in slows down in 1/4 time, have a look at the car if you can park it in warmer conds... to see if its quicker as Toyotas do this normally for fast warm up,lastly has it been well serviced...looked after??

sounds like the clutch field on or bearing on the front of the compressor went bad take a closer look at the pulley on the comp. and see if there is any debris or melted plastic coming out behind the pulley,if so the clutch, field and bearing should be replaced, hope this helps

98 Chev pickup air cond problem

1. Have the refridgerant fluid level checked. (Could be low)

2. Have you tried putting it on recirculate? Could be a venting issue.

Other than that it's out of my league.
