I have a 2003 VW Beetle manual transmission. I just got my thermostat replaced about 2 weeks ago, and now my temp light is coming on. Can you tell me what that means?

If the temp light is going on, the thermostat may have to be checked again to see if it's sticking.

The temp light goes on when the temperature is too high.
I would take it back to where it was replaced to see what can be done about the problem.

Check coolant fluid levels as well.

Check to make sure that the rubber o-ring going into the heater core located under the hood on the passenger side does not need replaced. Also check the water pump, these are both very common problems with volkswagen.

Some auto parts stores scan check engine lights for free. If you can get the code, and tell me what your engine/trans is in the Beetle, I can help narrow down the cause of the check engine light.

Were is the cooling Temp Sensor located on a 2004 vw beetle and is there anything special about replacing it. I have a P2181 code and that is the problem.

that code is for cooling system performance. which probably means you need to replace the thermostat. you can get free repair guides on autozone.com for this vehicle that will tell you where the sensor is

If it's a 2.0L, then the coolant sensor would be an easy fix. It's between the Air box / engine (on top of the coolant flange on the end of the head). If you do that, you probably should do a thermostat. Usually it's recommended to replace the thermostat when you do a coolant temp sensor, but that's up to you.

Noise when car is started

Sounds like the starter stays "sticked"on... Check the starter relay or after the sound goes away touch the starter for heat. If its too hot it means it stays on working even when the engine is allready running...
